Immunization is basically a way through which body can be prevented from infectious diseases. By giving vaccination person body gets immunized and start preparing itself to fight against diseases if in case there are any chances of getting the disease.
Babies when are born are blessed with natural immunity. This slowly starts diminishing once baby own immune system starts developing. Child vaccination injects immunization into child body and give the child right protection which can cause several diseases to the child and in many case can kill too.
Here is a schedule which every parent should be aware of and also what they should expect when vaccination is given to the child.
This vaccination is given at the time of birth and protects the child from tuberculosis. This vaccination causes a nodule after3-6 weeks and a scar by 8-12 weeks.
Injected polio Vaccine(IPV)
This vaccination is to be given at the age of 6 weeks, at 10 weeks , at14weeks and between 15-18 months. This vaccine protects against polio. It generally causes stomach pain and mild fever.
Oral Polio Vaccine(OPV)
This vaccination is given at the age of 6 weeks, at 10 weeks, at 14 weeks between 15 to 18 months and at 5 years. This vaccine is given through Pulse polio immunization program to all children under the age of 5.What parents should watch out is that this vaccination is given over and above the routine 6 doses of OPV which a child should get until 5 years of age.
Diptheria,pertussis and Tetanus (DPT)Vaccine
This vaccination is given at the age of 6 weeks, at 10 weeks , at 14 weeks between 15-24 months and at 5 years. This vaccine protects the child against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus. This vaccination some time causes fever, pain and swelling at site, in rare cases , irritability and convulsions.
Hemophilus Influenza B(HIB)Vaccine
This is given at the age of 6 weeks, at 10 weeks, at 14 weeks , and between 15-18 months. This vaccine protects against meningitis, pneumonia and septicaemia caused by the bacteria Hemophilus InluenzaB. This vaccination too can cause slight pain and mild fever to the baby.
There are three accepted schedule : ,10 and 14 weeks of age, at birth,6 and 14 weeks of age ; at birth ,1and 6 months of age. This vaccination is basically to protects against liver diseases and liver cancer caused by Hepatitis B in life ahead.
Measles Vaccine-is given at the age of 9 months. As the name suggests protects the child against measles .Can cause mild fever and rashes which are generally seen after one week which gets cured by itself.
Measles, Mumps and Rubella-This vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. Does cause rashes or mild fever but is self cured.
Typhoid Vaccine-This is given to the child who is above the age of 2 and then is given again at the age of 3.Protects the child from typhoid and generally causes mild fever .
Tetanus reduced dose diphtheria/Tetanus toxide(TT)Vaccine-It is given at the age of 10 and 16 years. Protects against diphtheria and tetanus. It may cause mild fever and pain.
Immunization should be done as early as possible so that child is protected against infection when they are at the most vulnerable stage. There is no need to give any new vaccination to your child which is introduced in the market. Talk to your pediatrician about the vaccines for it. If you miss a vaccine by a few days then it is not a cause of worry but still try to be on time .
