Philips Satinelle Epilator HP6400 Review

Wise She New Year Mega Mega NYX International Giveaway Entry 3 By Shivani

HI All,

Today I  am reviewing my loving Philips Epilator. Before finding and affording this beautiful product  I  had  also tried hair removing creams, waxing, shaving etc etc  but they all pained  my skin badly one or another way.Possible reasons could have been chemical formula, unhygenic conditions, unsterilized strips and  my sensitive skin.
Then Istarted searching  a good solution for it and most frequently came across the name EPILATOR . All went in my mind was,
even it was going to pull my hair like wax then whats the difference. And after a lot of googling I decided to give it a shot with a branded gadget. With my mind still doubting on it I spent 1800 bucks for my very pretty feminine and stylish epilator.
Its a purple and whit colored corded epilator with only 1 head for epliation and which has tweezers working in a rotating row.Its speed can be controlled at two  levels.
Product  claims to pull even 0.5 mm hair but it only happens when you  concentrate on one specific area, if done in a hurry it takes away only half hair with roots unplugged.
I decided to use it on my legs first and the miniute I turned it on……ohh it literally gave me a ZATKA . So paniful it was…… and it was red and swollen it was(might be because I had long hard hairs and all thanks to my shaver).Considering this fact, with my sweaty hands I daringly tried it again the very same day but in a fast motion and higher speed this time. It was lesser pain and quick working(although it was paining but i hearty wanted to try it so did not stop it  in between). After cleaning my first leg I immediately moisturized it with aloe gel.
And seeing the result I  was motivated  and did same for other leg too!! After 2-3 hrs I  noticed some red patches and again patted some aloe gel on it to avoid any further addition to it.Next morning while bathing i exfloliated well to avoid any bumps or boils.I did the same for my hands, underarms and even back chance by chance. Now i have been using it for more then a year regularly and face no bumps/boils/redness while or after epilating.

What I liked about the philips Satinelle Epilator HP6400

  • Handy and stylish.
  • Safer and more hygenic then waxing.
  • Efficient uprooting.
  • Adjusting cap for effective working.
  • Ergonomic grip
  • Washable.
What I did not like about the philips Satinelle Epilator HP6400
  • A bit expensive for  one  head.
  • No WET using option.
  • Can be painful for first few times
I love MY EPI Smile
Wise She Rating :-4.75/5

  1. Nice review Shivani…Thankfully i dont have much hair on my legs or hands Big Smile .i have never waxed or tried any other hair removal products..

  2. id like to add a tip here for epilation.the pain is best avoided if your skin is moist.ive been using its since 5-6 years now…was a Philips fan until it gave up on me n I went n bought the top most model with various attachments in BRAUN.Philips too has multi-attachment epilator but it was unsuccessful n was soon taken off the shelf here in India.so I had to settle for its competitor…BRAUN.with braun…they give a pack of moisturizing sheets with which u wipe your skin n then epilate.its ok to use your wet wipes as the idea is to use it on moisturized skin for VERY LESS PAIN.when u use a wet and dry epilator…the major advantage is that u can epilate while bathing n believe me…NOTHING HAPPENS TO THE MACHINERY.n when u epilate while bathing…the pain is almost close to NONE!
the second most important thing is…if u feel u have really long hair to get ride of…use a razor on the area to be epilated.get back to it after 3-4 days when u start having new hair growth n then epilate.that ways, u wont feel as much pain as long hair would cause when being epilated.u can also trim the hair short n epilate if not too keen on using a razor.
i hope these tips help n cause u less or no pain at all Smile
IMPORTANTGrinO NOT USE A MOISTURIZER OR CREAM OR ANY OIL BASED PRODUCT BEFORE EPILATION…IT HEATS UP THE EPILATOR N CAN CAUSE JAMMING n it WONT WORK AGAIN.just wet moisturization is the key Smile happy epilation girls! Smile

  3. one last thing which I forgot to add…once epilated…make sure that u don't let your hair grow too long to go thru all the pain all over again.remember girls…THE SHORTER THE BETTER Wink n once u get used to epilation…the hair growth will subsequently reduce.i now epilate my arms in 3-4 months n that too with almost invisible growth but because its routine…i follow it Smile good luck!

    • oh my god..thts awesome tips jasdeep..thank u so much i was so scared of epilators tht it hurts lyk hell now i will give it a try wid ur tips Big Smile

      • jasdeep kaur says:

ur very welcome Tulips Big Smile so happy to have helped make up ur mind on buying one Yes go for it!!!BRAUN id say… considering the after sales service n technology wise too! im not bad mouthing Philips though…but when it comes to wet n dry epilator…ud only get Braun in India.Philips is off the shelf!

  4. is there a bomb scare on wiseshe?no one is around!I am surprised Shock

  5. Shout Shout Shout Shout Shout :clap-n-jump: Shout

  6. I somehow am scared of epilators shivani..but I guess after a few times one gets used to na..nice review Smile

  7. A silly question… Can we use it for bikini area? I am OK with a bit of pain…. Had once tried in Pantaloons on hand and it was just fine, dint feel much pain

  8. A silly question… Can we use it for bikini area? I am OK with a bit of pain…. Had once tried in Pantaloons on hand and it was just fine, dint feel much pain, sorry posting it again to get the comments notifications. please bear with me Shy

    • jasdeep kaur says:

well if u ask me…id never ever dare to use it in the bikini area…its hell lot of a pain…the skin is as sensitive as our underarms.BUT…YOU CAN SURELY SHAVE IT Yes absolutely painless Big Smile i bet on that! n for that…u need a multi-attachment epilator as i mentioned above.the one which comes with a shaving head.i use braun n it has both shaving n trimming heads plus it has two more heads meant for facial use!!! Yes

      • Thanks so much for your reply! Oh I am totally buying that, I dont know why but I always prefer Braun over Philips. How much does it cost? Any idea…

        • jasdeep kaur says:

the one i have is 7k INR. its got various attachments.check link which ive shared above! Philips DOES NOT have a good after sales service so i had to discard my previous epilator as it was imported n the company refused to rectify the fault the second time which occurred in the warranty period n within 2 weeks of getting it repaired previously.
as for Braun…its German technology n i trust it more than Philips now that i know Philips has issues repairing their products which have been manufactured abroad!

          • thanx so much for the advice jasdeep…i hav a panasonic one and its on its deathbed…hehe..so i wana get the wet n dry one… Smile

            • jasdeep kaur says:

good luck Big Smile braun it is for u this time hehe or even panasonic.they too have a wet n dry one.guess its for 6k.its probably the same as braun…the only difference being that panasonic doesnt dome with the extra facial attachment.u know for chin…upper lip etc n thats why its 6k i suppose.

              • I suppose so..I’ve been on the lookout for Braun but never manage t see too many pieces in stores..and the few stores which carry them hav the basic models only…online is the only way to go Smile

                • jasdeep kaur says:

well it wasnt easy for me either…but then i went to the kitchen appliances n other electronics store in my local market…that guy has braun products so he ordered it for me from the company right over the phone n also gave me a discount of Rs.500.its actually priced at 7500 INR! buts cause ive been his sort of old customer…he gave me a discount Big Smile

  9. i always wax n its so cubersome to go parlour every 20 days Neutral mite get dis for d legs, hands toh i prefer waxing as it remove d tan Big Smile

  10. my hair grwth is so dense that i usually hav t wax…i do use an epilator but since its on its deathbed now i wana go for a gud one and am on the hunt! hehe..

  11. Nice review Shivani. I prefer epilating over waxing n shaving. But i wish it wudnt be so time consuming n noisy. Is this noisy as well?

    • jasdeep kaur says:

its only time consuming because we dont follow it routinely.as mentioned above in one of my tips…

“one last thing which I forgot to add…once epilated…make sure that u don’t let your hair grow too long to go thru all the pain all over again.remember girls…THE SHORTER THE BETTER Wink n once u get used to epilation…the hair growth will subsequently reduce.i now epilate my arms in 3-4 months n that too with almost invisible growth but because its routine…i follow it Smile good luck!”

      • JASDEEP , Big Smile
thanks a lot dear! for all those informative tips and answers Kiss Kiss .

for all i think phlips is a good budget buy if u r a beginner with epilators. Big Smile

        • jasdeep kaur says:

i second that Shivani.its a good budget buy for beginners.but with multi attachment…i feel…if one finds epilation too painful in the beginning…u have an option of shaving for the first time n then using epilator the next time with smaller hair growth as that would cause less pain Smile but whichever way…epilation is much comfortable than waxing n hair removal creams.atleast one can do it whenever u want Smile

      • This is the mistake I usually make..I always used t think that longer the hair, the easier it’s gona be fr the machine t grip the strands n pul them out.. Wink I stand corrected now.. Wink

      • thanks jasdeep. the main reason i postpone epilating is coz of the noise. ppl will begin to think am using a drilling machine inside my room Frown

  12. I want to get an epilator too.does it work for underarms.using epilator for underarms scares me

    • me too but all those who have usedit r doing it .

      • it doesnt hurt too much…its like a tiny pings instead of the wrenching pain we get while waxing…but th eonly reach i like waxing is that mosr surface area is cleared in faster duration Smile

    • jasdeep kaur says:

hi pinky if u read my tips/suggestions carefully…u will notice that the key is to have short length hair n then epilate.longer hair cause more pain n almost make it impossible to epilate specially when we are dealing with underarms!!!
so first,do a small patch test n then proceed further.also…the best way to epilate underarms is the stretch ur arm up n high as much as possible n then use the machine.that reduces pain Smile all the best!!!

  13. Mine is a PHILIPS Satinelle Soft HP6409 which my dad bought it for me in 2008 for Rs.3495. I used it once that time and after that I left it in my closet and never used it again. After that shaving, waxing, hair removal creams, waxing, growing a jungle and then again waxing.. all that money down the drain with hair removal LOL. Plus, i’m a lazy person and booking an appointment for waxing is just a pain for me lol. So I was so lazy that I remembered that I have an epilator! This was 4days back! I first tried it on my arms and that was quick cause I can handle arm pain when it comes to hair plucking. And then I thought, “Hey, this is really a good gadget and I dunno why I stopped using it in the first place!” and then I started with my legs and dear God it was really painful. It took me 2days to finish my two legs. Took breaks in between cause of the pain! LOL. Then i tried it on my under arm hair. with in 30mins I was done with that. This epilator is a great thing cause its only painful when u use it for the first time. Then u will get used to the pain. Just tell urself that how much money ur saving on waxing by using this epilator at home! Grin

    • just don’t forget to use a body luffa or a scrubing glove whenever you take a shower/bath. Cause with epilators u might get more ingrown hair so to avoid that just use those two whenever you can all over ur body to avoid ingrown hair ^_^. Plus, I checked out epilator reviews on youtube and other beauty gurus there swear by it when it comes to their smooth underarms! Epilating is great for solving underarm darkness done by all that shaving.

  16. I also bought the same model Hp 6400 and it says here I shouldn’t use it on any part of my body except legs. Is this true? or is it safe to use it on my underarms? Thanks
