The scorching heat, the sweaty day and the streaky face is the life of an average working woman who wears makeup to work. Since most of us stay in areas that are humid and polluted (talking about metropolitans) getting the right products is like playing hide-n-seek with your own skin. Amidst all this rises a foundation that could answer the prayers of most of the concerns one has.
Presenting Clinique Superbalanced Makeup, an oil free face delicacy for any woman who wants to have a long wearing, natural looking, extremely hydrating foundation that lasts till she removes it. At Clinique, the guiding dermatologists claim it to be ‘an extension of their skin care line-up’ and dream towards achieving a global leadership in foundations as its all about loyalty and faith in the product and the color. No wonder Superbalanced Makeup is one of the hottest and fastest selling foundations of Clinique.
Clinique claims,
(behind the box) ‘ The smart makeup base. Absorbs oil where oil-control is needed; moisturizes where hydration is needed. Slips onto skin easily. Oil free. Shake well before using. Allergy tested. 100% Fragrance free. Moderate Cover. Natural finish.’
This is one of the perfect foundations I found in the hunt towards getting the best possible color, most natural looking coverage and of course hydration. Superbalanced makeup gets its name from the idea that it wicks away oil while keeping skin hydrated. The foundation I use and have pictured is #05 Vanilla
PACKAGING
Superbalanced makeup comes in a sturdy milky glass bottle that looks like a cube with an opening. The bottle enables user to see how much foundation is there inside when kept straight and also gives a ‘boudoir’ like effect when you keep it on dressing table. Only the concern is that it can be a bit heavy to carry compared to its plastic counterparts, chances of breakage might be high (although the glass is really sturdy) and it takes forever for the formula to come out of the opening.
FORMULA
Its an oil free foundation that is non acnegenic and non comedogenic with an amazing slip and moderate buildable coverage. This silicone rich formula has silica to absorb excess oil and a protein complex that helps lock in moisture for all day hydration. When applied, the first layer disappears into the skin while creating a lovely dewy effect that imparts a fresh glowing complexion any time. The foundation can be layered to get the desired coverage and effect without going cakey.
Ideally this is a very good foundation for anyone who has a dry combination or combination to oily skin . Dry skins may need a rich moisturizer underneath while oilier skins may need to powder up once-twice throughout the day to combat shine. It contains anti-irritants and anto oxidants to protect from environmental damage and helps minimize appearance of lines and wrinkles. It does not cover scars, marks or pigmentation patches but can be layered over a concealer.
They come in different skin colors and tones. Some abbreviations are as follows N – Neutral, G – Golden, P – Pink, VF – Very fair, F – Fair, MF – Medium Fair, M – Medium, D – Dark. They come in all sorts of undertones but what I like are the formulas with a neutral undertone that suit pink and yellow complexions in one formula. Also neutral tone makes blending easy and if a right color is chosen, this could be a completely fail proof mistake proof foundation.
APPLICATION
After cleansing, clarifying and moisturizing, slather a sunscreen or treatment product (maybe a serum) and then apply foundation. I recommend a foundation brush so that it becomes easy to actually paint the face (I recommend Clinique’s foundation brush) and then smooth out with fingers and blend outwards and downwards. You can also mix it with a hydrating product like Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief and sunscreen to create a DIY tinted moisturizer.
I do not suggest applying with foundation sponge as they liquid may get absorbed and there may be product wastage. One can also use a duo fiber brush or buffer brush to blend the foundation for an air brushed effect.
Dont forget to set the foundation with Clinqiue Blended Face Powder or newly launched Clinique Superbalanced Powder makeup.
INGREDIENTS

What I like about Clinique Superbalanced Makeup Foundation
- Its oil free and hydrating
- non comedogenic and does not cause acne, while it is allergy tested
- natural looking, moderate coverage
- ideal for most occasions indoors and outdoors
- doesn’t turn grey in flash of the camera (unless mismatched undertone)
- ideal for photoshoots, bridals and professional work too
What I dislike about Clinique Superbalanced Makeup Foundation
- Does not have sunscreen . But its actually good as the foundation may not oxidise and look ghostly in flash.
- The bottle can be a bit inconvenient for usage and portability.
- A pump cannot be fixed to extract the foundation
- In the middle of the day, nose can get a bit oily and may need powdering.
- PRICE :Rs.1900 INR (revised prices)

wow i wld luv to try dis one after my anti blemish gets over.
clinique do have awesome range of foundations

you can also try it with anti-blemish actually. just layer superbalanced for a dewy finish and also apply it in the areas where your skin is clean and devoid of any scars or marks.

try to skip powder unless its absolutely necessary….it helps getting a dewy glow…dont slather too much moisturizer and opt for oil free hydating textures….works wonders

i think no body is too sure about their shades…
oh gud to knw tht

ITs not an easy shade finder but I still can recommend the closest shade thanks to my 3 yrs tenure with Clinique.
Neeraj recently posted..The Enchanted Night series…..Silver Woods
that might be too light for u…Nude Beige is very good for fair caucasian skin.
Neeraj recently posted..The Enchanted Night series…..Silver Woods
she can go with Vanilla 05 or Porcelain Beige 08 depending upon her skin color. But I would suggest Tulip to go to the Clinique counter and match the shade.
Neeraj recently posted..The Enchanted Night series…..Silver Woods

Not an easy foundation to find. See that color matching foundation from Revlon or if you want to shell a bit more then Max Factor Xperience foundation is closeby. Have you tried those foundation sticks from Chambor? they are good too!

Anti blemish solutions would be a better choice. But if you want to splurge then use the Superbalanced on areas of you skin which are flawless and cover the acne areas with Anti blemish foundation. This can help you retain a glowy look.you can watch Lisa Eldridge’s video on acne covering….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwngbzv0gbY

I wish foundations had auto detectors for perfect shade matching. I am never satisfied. I live in a clinique obsessed home but never tried Clinique make up. That will change soon.

I was waiting for a clinique foundation to be reviewed here…Thanks so much for the review Dr..Although this is really pricey, m pretty its worth it …especially for those with sensi skin who find it tough to find a gud foundation which doesnt break them out…i myself have very sensi skin and cant express the number of times i wish id found this sorta product then…
Hi Zara…love ur comments as they come str8 from the heart…LOL…Its a lovely foundation by itself and amazing for sensitive skin.
One should never tamper with or go easy on formulas for foundations and mascaras as they are the ones that cover the most sensitive features. Its better to cut down on blushes, lipglosses and eyeshadows but never these two and a liner included.
The Superbalanced Foundation does not cause breakouts and feels so light weight and airy on the skin.
Its kinda perfect if you find the right shade for your skin.

Thanks for the review Doc! I really want to try out Clinique jaldi se. God! Need to go to Mumbai!
u must…its a steal for a foundation.
Neeraj recently posted..Smoked in Jewels….
Hi Dr.Neeraj..
That was an awesome, to-the point review.. I just bought this a few months back from the Clinique counter in SSand totally love the finish. Back then the shade was a perfect match for me. But now I find that it looks slightly light on my skin..I hope its just a case of tanning due to my recent over exposure to sun.
As a skin care expert, would like to know your take on this. Does the skin tend to change tones like this? Could it be climatic variations that bring these changes? Any remedy for the same?
i hv super oily skin (read oil wells all over my face
)..suggest smthing…
