Hello everyone….
This is my first review for Wiseshe and I’ve tried to make it as
informative as possible… Here we gooooo!
Everyone needs a sunscreen that helps protect your skin from sunburn, early skin aging and skin cancer. Sunlight consists of two types of harmful rays ultraviolet A (UVA) rays and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. UVB rays are shorter, more energetic and cause sunburn. UVA rays are longer, penetrate glass, wrinkle and age the skin prematurely causing certain skin cancers
How does one figure out which sunscreen to opt for?
Firstly, the type of skin, lenght of sun exposure and third the level of SPF.
SPF is an acronym for ‘Sun Protection Factor’. The SPF level of a sunscreen lotion is an indication of how long the sunscreen will remain effective and not how STRONG the sunscreen is.
Calculation : Think about how many minutes it takes for your skin to redden/tan when exposed to direct sunlight. If say in 10 minutes your skin starts to react then catch 10 as the average. Simply multiply the SPF level of the sunscreen with 10 in this case. So an SPF 30 multiplied into 10 is equal to 300. Those are the number of minutes for which the sunscreen will continue to remain effective after you’ve applied it.
I had to go home to Goa for 5 days and knew I’d be coming back like a ‘burnt’ cookie if I did’nt have an appropriate sunscreen. ‘Safe is the New Sexy’ was the tag line that got me to zero down on the sunny yellow Clinique range of sunscreens. They have ‘SolarSmart’ technology with solar-activated antioxidants which stabilizes high-level UVA/ UVB protection to defend skin against the harmful effects of the sun.
I was lucky when I got it in February as they had a sunscreen kit for Rs. 2,100. It included 50 ml of SPF 30 body cream, 30 ml SPF 30 face cream, a to-go 7 ml SPF 30 face cream tube with their trademark clinique logo keychain and a beautiful colourful makeup bag.
Clinique Sun SPF 30 Face Cream
You may wonder why ‘body’ cream and why ‘face’ cream. Well the face cream is a tad lighter than the body cream for the obvious fact that the skin on your face differs from that of your body. I have combination/sensitive skin. The product come in a tube thus eliminating the risk of dirty fingers. The cream is thick but blends effortlessly into the skin leaving it nice and plump. There is absolutely no white cast and it does not makes the skin oily. You should apply enough so that every part of your face is evenly covered in it, not just little bit here and there. I have tried mixing it with the Maybelline B.B. Cream and it blends nicely on to the face. It works well under makeup too. If u have oily skin then the body cream might be a little heavy for your skin but if u have dry/normal skin then you can use the body cream for both face and body.
I was out in the sun for 2 hours totally, daily for 4 days and the rest of the time in taxis or at home. I still got a nasty tan. My foundation and concealer are’nt matching my skin tone anymore. It’s a month now and it’s beginning to clear up. I went back to the SA who sold it to me and said “ look at my tan” and the reply I got was “ Imagine the tan if you did’nt have sunscreen!!! ” : P. Even SPF 100 won’t save you in Goa.
In India the SolarSmart Range all in tube form includes:
SPF 30 (face) - 50ml – Rs. 1300
SPF 30 (body) - 150ml – Rs. 1600
SPF 50 (body) - 150ml – Rs. 1600
SPF 25 (face and body) – 150ml – Rs. 1600 (SPRAY FORM)
SPF 15 (face and body) – 150ml – Rs. 1600
After-Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe- 150 ml – Rs. 1600. It calms sun-exposed skin, helps minimize peeling, soothes the skin after chlorine exposure in pools. Suitable for face and body. Oil-free and non-acnegenic
However, sunscreen alone cannot protect you fully. Seek shade whenever you can and protect your skin by wearing long sleeves, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses whenever possible.
