This is a classic lipstick for the entire year. The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color and it resists wear and smudging.
Hello, and once again, I have another lipstick to review, which might be great for many others, but sadly not for me. I wanted Nyx Hebe from Stylecraze.com and after a day or two of placing the order I got a call from them, where this charming young man told me that Hebe was not there, so if I would order something else. Since I’d already paid 300/- for it, I decided to go for the Pumpkin Pie colour, thinking it would be a good colour for me to wear in this summer. Also, okay, I was tempted more because of the entire Harry Potter obsession I have about orange colours, and I thought this would be a warm orangey brown shade. The pictures of the colour on the Stylecraze website showed a warm brownish orange shade, and I was all right with it. The size of the lipstick is just perfect at 4 gm so I placed the order.
So, two days later, my colour was there. This is the first look of the colour… I was EXCITED to say the least. I have used Nyx lippies before, and I love their packaging, and the fact that they actually write about the ingredients going into the lippie. Another good thing about the colour is that it is very travel friendly, and the lid does not come off easily. However, one thing I was worried about was if it would be okay after travelling all this distance in a packet. And I was right to worry, it turned out.
However, the colour indicator at the bottom should have warned me that this shade might not be for me, but still, I decided to open it.
Okay, when I opened it, I realized that half the lippie had melted quite a bit. Ouch! Even if its 300/-, but still it HURTS when you open a packet and find yourself holding an imperfect product.
Here is a salvaged version of the product, but you can still see the melted lipstick on the sides. Sigh! As I was cleaning up, it was running in my mind not to order any more Nyx lipsticks online (after 2 minutes I remembered that I had put down an order for two more colours AND a lip gloss just the day before. Epic Failure!)
As soon as I saw the colour I knew it was too light for my wheatish skin and would make me look washed out. And it did.
Here are swatches of the colour on my hand.
This picture is more true to life though it turns the colour more pinkish, which it is not. The best way to explain this colour is that it’s a nude brown shade which weirdly looks slightly pink in photos, but actually is not. It is like very milky pale coffee colour, and not flattering to my skin tone.
This is closer to how the colour actually looks, though it is paler.
It also does not look good on my lips, and it gets melted too easily.
This is with flash, inside. It actually weirdly looks pink with flash, but it actually is not pink. Am I making sense?
This one does not have flash, and is more like the colour. It is also 1 hour after I’d applied, to show you guys the difference between the first pic and the second.
See, it sort of is very creamy and the texture I adore, and it keeps my lips hydrated for at least 2 hours. Also, it has a really pleasant smell, which is a bonus for me. I am using it currently with a lip liner (Avon glimmerstick, and it is gorgeous). Also, any lipstick from Nyx has to be refrigerated if you live in a country which is anywhere over 30 degrees temperature, which is most of India. So well, be warned!
What I like about NYX Round Lipstick Pumpkin Pie Lipstick:-
- Has a very creamy texture
- Very pleasant smell
- Trendy packaging
- Hydrating to my lips
- No shimmers or sequins, so great for office and daywear
- More or less inexpensive for 4 gm(300/- at Stylecraze, 256/- at Medplusbeauty, 257/- at Healthkart and quite reasonably priced elsewhere)
- Available online
What I don’t like about NYX Round Lipstick Pumpkin Pie Lipstick:-
- Colour is too light for my skin tone and makes me look washed out (though I think a lighter skinned person might have a better bet with it, also women who have a fetish for nude shades)
- Somewhat sets in fine lines after the first hour or so.
- Melts if you do not refrigerate
- Not available in my city offline so no way I can find out about the rest of the colours (although I have ordered a few more)
Finally, I would like to say that though this lipstick is not to my liking, there are lots of people who might love it, so, if you claim you adore it that is fine with me. The lippie is just not meant for me. Guess Pumpkin Pie is not my thing and I do not think I will repurchase this.
