I have this affinity towards The Body Shop products. I’m not really sure why but it has been this way ever since I was a kid Back then, my aunts use to get me TBS shower gels and gifts packs from abroad and I used to treasure them and use them sparingly. When I heard about the launch of TBS stores in India, my excitement knew no bounds . It just got even better with online shopping websites such as stylecraze delivering these babies to our doorstep
About The Body Shop Strawberry Soap
The Indian website says: This strawberry-scented soap gives a rich lather and leaves skin cleansed and refreshed.
The American website says: A vegetable-based soap with fabulous strawberry scent which cleanses and helps condition the skin. This vegetable-based soap contains strawberry juice and contains derivatives of palm oil and glycerin.
The soap says: Strawberry soap

It comes tightly wrapped in thin plastic that looks like cling-film. So unwrapping it is a wee bit difficult since there are no edges where you can start peeling from. The label on the plastic can be peeled from one side to reveal the ingredients page (had an even harder time trying to peel that). I know The Body Shop is very environment-conscious and try to avoid excess of packaging but a carton would have been really nice since it becomes difficult to store the soap without getting a few dents. Plus, if you buy these online there’s always the risk of the soap being slightly deformed by the time it reaches you.
When I opened the box I received from stylecraze, a yummy aroma filled the entire room . I thought it may be the Oxyglow Strawberry face wash. Nope. The new toner? Nope. I kept digging and realized it was this soap! The fragrance is very fruity and sweet but it doesn’t really smell like fresh strawberry. It’s more like the smell of strawberry preserve or mixed fruit jam.
My Experience with The Body Shop Strawberry Soap
The first thing you’ll notice about this soap, even before you open the packaging, is the aroma. It appears strong and fills the entire room. But sadly the fragrance is not that prominent on skin and barely lasts a few minutes. By the time I’m out of the shower, there’s no hint of the fragrance. To make the fragrance last, it is best to follow up with The Body Shop Strawberry Body Butter, which by the way, smells slightly sweeter and better than the soap.
The soap is pinkish red in color and is translucent like any glycerine soap. Once you start using the soap, it looks more whitish and opaque as is visible in the pic. The words “slippy dippy soap” keeping coming to mind every time I use this since it is quite slippery and smooth. It has a nice creamy lather and it cleanses well. I say creamy since it is not as sudsy and foamy like regular soaps but more of a thick and mildly bubbly lather. It does not leave behind any residue or oily film on the skin. It is moderately moisturizing but those with dry skin will have to follow up with a body moisturizer. I was afraid if this would just melt away and finish up quickly but it thankfully doesn’t.
Initially, I didn’t realize the ingredients were given behind the soap label. So, I was unaware that this contained coconut. Too late!!! I was so excited about getting a strawberry scented soap that I used it on my face just once. The fact is that I’m horribly allergic to coconut oil. Sure enough, I got a lot of awful break-outs . But I couldn’t understand what had caused it then and thought it could be the scrub I’d used. But then I had already used that scrub a couple of times before . Then I thought it must be the dreaded PMS…my skin always breaks out then. But no, there was still a week to go . Then while typing out the ingredients I saw coconut and was like Oh No!! But I’m still not completely sure and there’s NO way I’m gonna try this soap again on my face to find out . But if I do figure out if it is the scrub or something else, I’ll update this post.
What I like about The Body Shop Strawberry Soap:
- Fruity fragrance
- Creamy lather
- Cleanses effectively without drying the skin
- Leaves no residue
- Soap bar doesn’t melt away
- Will suit all skin types
- Complete list of ingredients is mentioned
- No sulphates or parabens
- No animal testing
What I don’t like about The Body Shop Strawberry Soap:
- Wish it came in a carton
- Fragrance does not linger on the skin at all (this may not be a con for some)
- If you have oily, acne-prone skin or if you’re allergic to coconut (like yours truly ) this may cause breakouts when used on the face
The Last word on The Body Shop Strawberry Soap:
This is a nice soap but nothing extraordinary. For this price, I feel there are better soaps out there. I would still have considered getting this again if the scent lingered. Plus, I also wish it smelled a bit more like fresh, juicy strawberrieeeeesss Gave you cravings, didn’t I??
