My regular toner contains alcohol and since it was on the verge of getting over, I decided to try an alcohol-free one for a change. At first, I considered buying plain rose water and storing it in an atomizer. Then I ended up getting this and it is not only contains 0% alcohol, it has lovely ingredients like rose, orange and peach. Is there anything not to like?? Hmm…let’s find out

Clean face and neck with Oxyglow face wash / cleansing milk. With eyes closed, spray toner onto face and neck. Dab gently. Follow it up with Oxyglow Intensive Moisturizing Lotion. Use every time you feel tired and unclean.
It comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a spray nozzle. This way, one can easily figure out how much product is left in the bottle. The spray nozzle is super convenient since it can either be sprayed directly onto the face or onto cotton wool. It has a small transparent cap that fits snugly and it will not open up in your pouch while travelling. A bonus of such spray bottles is that they are re-usable and you can always refill them with any other toner or body mist or any liquid of your choice.
It obviously smells of roses but not the exotic or fresh kind. It smells of wild roses…y’know the cheaper variety that blooms wide and flat. I cannot sense any hint of orange or peach and I’m guessing the quantity of their concentration must be low. I wouldn’t really call the scent mild. It’s a tad strong and the scent does linger on the skin for some time. This of course is good news for those who love rose fragrance. If you absolutely hate rose fragrance, well…you wouldn’t be buying this in the first place

My Experience with Oxyglow Rose Petal Refreshing Skin Toner:
I like toners since they complete my cleansing routine by removing traces of dirt that my face wash fails to eliminate. And so, I generally prefer using a cotton pad and gently rubbing it onto my skin rather than spraying directly onto my face and just patting it in. This also helps to mildly exfoliate skin.
I spray this toner onto cotton and apply by rubbing gently in upward circular movements. I particularly make sure I reach areas of my face such as between the lip and chin, around my nose and sometimes even way below my neck. Although this does not remove as much dirt as a toner containing alcohol would, it still does a fairly good job. But I’m not sure if I can attribute this to the toner or the rubbing action of the cotton pad
Once am done, skin feels tight yet not dry or stretchy. It feels hydrated but does not look overly shiny. Since it is alcohol-free, it does not sting or burn. I did try spraying this directly onto my face a couple of times. I patted it onto skin and let it air dry. It takes a few seconds to evaporate and my skin did not look overly shiny or greasy. It worked fine this way when the weather was really dry. But in even mildly humid weather, it would feel heavy and skin starts getting greasy within a few minutes. So, I stick to using this only with a cotton pad since I have super oily skin. If you have combination to dry skin, you can easily go ahead and use this directly without cotton.
One issue I’m concerned about is the color of the toner. It looks bright red in the bottle and when sprayed onto cotton, there is a visible pink tint. I know rose extracts do have a pink tone but it still makes me wonder if there is added color as well as preservatives in this product and I’ve begun to suspect if the ingredients list is incomplete But this is just a suspicion on my part and I’m not really sure.
In sweltering summers, you can store this is in the refrigerator and use it as a cooling and refreshing face mist. It can also be used to prepare powder-based face packs. I’m also super tempted to use it as a body mist. I used to abhor rose fragrance earlier and even now it isn’t really my first preference. But I’m slowly learning to appreciate it especially after using L’occitane Hydrating Face Mist, which by the way, has turned into my go-to body mist

- Tightens skin without drying it out
- Hydrates well
- Did not break me out

What I don’t like about Oxyglow Refreshing Skin Toner:
- For those with oily skin, this makes skin greasy when sprayed directly onto the face
Final thoughts on Oxyglow Refreshing Skin Toner:
This toner works fairly well and is a great buy considering the price. I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve used, but I don’t see anything horribly wrong with it either. I feel this would work really well for combination to dry skin and for those with mature skin. Since I have oily skin I prefer more mattifying toners, so I may not repurchase. Oxyglow also has a Cucumber Skin Toner and I’m wondering if it may suit my oily skin better. Have any one of y’all tried that?
