Every skincare brand worth its salt has a body scrub extension to it. All of them claim; to have pure, natural ingredients, to help you reveal beautiful young and glowing skin, to fight aging and sometimes tall claims like, fighting cellulite as well. Now on the other side, we consumers are busy people, who are always on the lookout for convenient options that will make our lives more sorted. This makes it a win-win situation.
But, have you ever thought of making your own stuff? I’m pretty sure all of us have been through a phase when Sunday’s meant – pampering your skin and hair. Your mother or grandmother would have definitely applied a liter of homemade oil or given you a nice oil massage and followed it up with a nourishing pack. This was my brainwave moment and I decided to share a few of those recipes with you lovely women.
Fruit & Sugar Body Scrub:
What you need:
- ½ Cup of Ripe Bananas or Papaya
- ¼ Cup of Crystalline Sugar (white or brown)
- Honey as needed to bring it to a spreadable consistency.
Mash the fruit coarsely, add in the sugar and honey and mix until smooth. Don’t over mix it, otherwise sugar will lose its scrubbing properties. Now apply this scrub on moist skin in circular motions.
Fruit helps in nourishing the skin, sugar exfoliates and honey helps in clearing away blemishes.
Coconut Oil Scrub
Coconut oil is widely used in skincare and hair care. You can mix Sugar and Coconut oil and add a couple of drops of any essential oil of your choice to make a hydrating body scrub. This works really well for people with extra dry skin.
Desi Body Scrub/Gram Flour Scrub:-
What you need:
- ½ Cup Besan / Gram Flour
- ¼ Cup of Yoghurt / Buttermilk
- 4 tsps of Lemon Juice
- 1 pinch of Turmeric and Chandan
This serves two purposes; you can use it as a body pack and a scrub. Besan nourishes and exfoliates the skin, yoghurt and lemon help in detanning, Turmeric and Chandan work as antiseptics.
Aloe Vera Scrub:-
What you need for Aloevera scub
½ Ground Masoor Dal (the Orange ones)
1-2 twigs or Aloe Vera, peeled and mashed (use according to the size)
¼ Cup of tomato puree
1 tsp Red Sandalwood powder
Aloe vera soothes skin, tomato helps in de-tanning, Masoor dal helps in exfoliating and red sandalwood powder is an antiseptic.
That’s all for the day. I hope you girls found it useful. I’ll be back with more DIY posts.
