10 Best Silicone Free Shampoo

Are Silicones harmful for hair and 10 Silicone Free Shampoos!

Hi Gals,

So gals today lets talk about one of the most dreaded ingredients in shampoos the SILICONES!  Nerd

Silicone-loaded shampoos are great for the temporary illusion of soft, shiny hair, but like all good things here also there is a catch. These products pretending as miracle workers, are actually weighing hair down and drying it out. Silicones are synthetic ingredients that give products a silky feel. It’s the ‘luxurious’ feel you’re fooled into believing is good for your hair. The harmful silicones which you should look into your shampoos are:

  • Dimethicone
  • Cyclomethicone
  • Phenyl trimethicone

For me personally, when it comes to haircare products, silicones work wonders as I have thick curly hair and now chemically straightened. I’ve tried using silicone-free shampoo many times but my hair just never looks as good as when I use shampoo that does contain silicones.  Pain

But what we need to understand that silicones can build up on the hair and then you do need to use a good clarifying shampoo about once a week to avoid build-up otherwise your favorite hair conditioner and mask wont show that amazing result after sometime as they are not able to penetrate into the hair shaft because of the silicone bluid up and also weighs down your hair and it will look flat. Now you may ask whats a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos are those ones which contains sulphates like SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate). They lather very well and clean your hair of all the silicone build up but on the downside your hair may feel dry but if you use a good conditioner and oil you hair before washing it shouldn’t be a problem.

So if you cannot avoid silicone do use a clarifying shampoo but the best would be try to avoid both silicone and sulfate free shampoos. Your hair may feel little dry at the beginning but it will thank you in the long run.  Cool

I have tried to compile 10 silicone free shampoos (first two in the list are good clarifying shampoos) for you gals which are available in India (whats the use of listing shampoos which are not available here! Silly) The ones which have been already reviewed here, I have linked it, just click on the name you will redirected to the review.  Angel

I have been using organic surge since ages, I flip between volumizing one and the blonde one, not that I am a blonde Razz but I love its effects on the hair. Recently I got babyliss Argan oil shampoo, and its amazing! Try using it if you can get it, you won’t be disappointed. It’s easy on pocket too. I have tried sebastian joico and many others but none worked as good as these. So go ahead and give them a try Smile
