Don’t we all love a good exfoliator? I surely do. I find skin cleansing incomplete without exfoliation. For a really long time I’ve wanted to buy Clarasonic, but was never able to completely convince myself to spend $150 for an exfoliation device. Yes, there are good exfoliation gels/creams out there in the market, so you may ask- why would you want an exfoliation device? A girl wants something more and something different, isn’t it?
One day I was randomly looking at some you tube videos which spoke about Konjac sponges as a face cleansing tool and them being a great replacement for Clarasonic. But a sponge for cleansing the face? Seriously? I had to turn to Google and do some research about it. I found out that many beauty bloggers were actually using the Konjac sponge and it was working out brilliantly for them. Konjac sponges have been a staple with the Japanese & Koreans and have been loved in the Southeast Asian countries.
So, what is this Konjac sponge you ask??
Konjac comes from a potato like plant in Asia that is cultivated and grows wild at high altitudes. The Japanese have used Konjac for over 1500 years as a food source and over the last century have been using the Konjac potato as a beauty treatment. The Konjac sponge has been handmade from the vegetable fiber of this plant. Hence, the Konjac sponge is extremely gentle and biodegradable.
Now you may find konjac sponges belonging to different brands and meant for different skin types. The Konjac sponge that I am reviewing today belongs to the brand- My Konjac Sponge and is meant for all skin types.
Usage: 10mins before using this sponge, you need to let it stay in warm water for the sponge to soak in water & recharge its fibers. It grows about 1/3rd in volume. The surface of the sponge is slightly course and hence is able to exfoliate. You can use the sponge directly on the face and it’s not harsh on the skin at all. The sponge can also be used with a face cleanser. Just take a small amount of the cleanser on the sponge and lather away on your face. Post usage, you need to wash the sponge under running water to remove any impurities which might have been deposited on its surface. You now need to remove any extra water from the sponge. Just press the sponge between your palms to drain the water. Do not wring the sponge. Wringing will break the sponge fibers and this will degenerate the sponge quickly. You have to let the sponge dry. You could hang it to dry near a window. Never hang the sponge in a damp place because that might attract some fungus growth. Once the sponge is completely dry it turns hard and shrinks in size. The sponge should stay usable for 3-3.5 months max or even lesser depending upon your usage.
My experience with Konjac Sponge- Face Cleansing Tool:
I love this sponge. It has become a staple in my skincare routine. I use it on alternate days and on its own after washing my face. Just wash your face with a face wash and then use the damp sponge on your face in circular motion. It removes grimes and any dead skin cells that might have been accumulated on the face. It leaves the skin baby smooth.
This product has been one of my best finds this year.
