Dark underarms often embarrass a lot of women but before you start panicking about your underarms that have started to darken, you must know that it is not that serious a problem that you have to run to a doctor for it or get scared thinking that you have contracted some disease.
Darkening of underarms is no medical condition at all. If you know what causes this darkening, you’ll at once understand the depth and enormity of this problem and even the ways to fight back. However women who are beauty conscious would of course be utterly bothered by the darkening of their armpits and for them this is indeed a big problem. Many of them are so panicked that they often rearrange their wardrobe anew trashing all their sleeveless tops and replacing those for long sleeved ones so that their dark armpits are hidden from the world.
Here I’ll talk about the 5 sure-shot ways to get rid of dark underarms but before going into the remedies it’s worthwhile to run a glance on the major causes of dark underarms:
- Hormonal changes occurring in the body during Pregnancy, Addison’s Disease
- Hormonal Upheaval associated with Diabetes
- Excessive use of Deodorants
- Dead cells
The hormonal changes that occur in the female body during pregnancy or during certain diseases trigger hyper-pigmentation especially in the underarm area leading to excessive melanin production and consequent darkening of underarm.
Now take a look at the ways by which you can get rid of this stubborn problem:
You can lighten your underarms by sloughing off the dead cells using a gentle exfoliating scrub. It’s best to use a natural homemade scrub. And for that you need to mingle 2 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp sea salt, 1/4th cup sugar and 1 tsp Olive oil. Scrub underarm for 7-10 minutes with the scrub. Then rinse off using lukewarm water and pat dry. Repeat every alternate day to get lighter underarms.
Shaving is one cause of dark underarms. So you can try other hair removal means like waxing or electrolysis. Waxing might prove painful in the beginning but you’ll soon get used to it. Electrolysis is an expensive process but is a permanent armpit hair removal solution.
The most popular and well known natural bleaching agent is of course lemon juice and so if you wish to bleach your dark underarms naturally and safely, dab it with a cotton ball soaked in lemon juice and keep for about 10 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Do this daily to get really light underarms.
Apply sandalwood paste mixed with rosewater to your dark underarms daily. Sandalwood has some special skin lightening properties while rosewater soothes the irritated skin of the armpit damaged due to excessive use of deodorants.
Prior to retiring to bed for a night’s sleep, dust your underarms generously with baking powder. You can even use alum powder instead of baking powder. This will effectively tackle the hyper-pigmentation problem of your underarms and sufficiently lighten and brighten them.
So now you know how to get rid of your dark underarms.
