The allure of a classic red lip with a cat’s eye is legendary! This has been my go-to look to college for the past 3 years and I certainly think it will remain so for the rest of my life too. The perfect red lip of celebrities like Dita Von Teese, Kat D or even Katy Perry inspire me to keep buying tubes of red lipstick that may or may not suit me.
The lipstick that I am now going to review is a tube that I just randomly picked off the e.l.f. website, without looking through any reviews. Let’s see if I fly blind suitably well.

My take on the ELF Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet:
This lip colour is simply put, a very vibrantly pigmented yet moisturising cool red that can suit a wide range of skin tones. The cool red instantly perks up my complexion and makes me look a whole lot brighter. The lipstick isn’t prone to feathering and very moisturizing. It is inexpensive in comparison to other drugstore lipsticks, even if it is part of the more expensive Studio Line in e.l.f.
The tube is kind of cheap looking, certainly subpar in comparison to the expected Studio Line packaging. But it certainly is travel safe, I have dropped it a bazillion times and it still looks pristine.
But this lipstick isn’t without its inherent flaws. While it is suitably moisturizing, it clings to dry patches on my lip even despite vigorous exfoliation prior to application. It also lasts a mere 2-3 hours after which it begins to fade evenly.
Availability is a huge issue, not only because e.l.f. products are unavailable in India but also because this product is so popular that it is almost perpetually out of stock.
What I like about the ELF Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet:
- Suitable for all skin tones
- Easy to apply
- Travel safe packaging
- e.l.f. products are not tested on animals
- Non matte and Moisturizing Finish
- Lasts 2-3 hours
- It’s a safe red to start out with
- Extremely pigmented
- Not prone to feathering
What I dislike about the ELF Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet:
- Accentuates chapped lips, despite vigorous scrubbing before lipstick application
- Not available in India
- Contains parabens
- May look patchy once layered
- Unhygienic application
- Lasting power isn’t all that great
- One of the most popular products on the website at the moment, so the product seems to be perpetually out of stock
- Packaging isn’t at par with the Studio standard
Would I repurchase the e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet?
