My experience with Almay Shadow Softies Eye Shadow in Smoke:
Packaging:- Cute, little pan with a transparent lid to see the color inside. The ingredients and shade name written at the bottom. Cute, compact and nice.
Shade:- “Smoke” is a charcoal grey colored shadow with smooth shimmers. The color looks soo gorgeous. Ideal for crease are blended with a light colored on lid or all over lid blended out with a dark black or brown.
Texture:- The texture reminds me of my Maybelline bouncy blush. Yes, the texture is bouncy. I mean they are spongy, clay like textured, and when you press your finger down on the shadow, it bounces back. Almay says it’s a whipped cream texture, which I think is misleading. When they say whipped I wish it to be creamy-mousse like texture; but this one has a powder like texture. So, to me it is more like a powder-gel formula which is super soft, smooth, lightweight and easy to blend. I wasn’t sure how to apply this at first but I’ve just been using my fingers to do the job. And due to the unique formula, there are no fall outs. But the disappointment with the formula is, brushes don’t seem to pick up enough product and they do work better when applied with fingertips.
Color pay off:- What I am truly disappointed at is the pigmentation. You just get a sheer color with some sparkle. If you are just starting your journey with your eye shadows or if you are a neutral soft look lover and don’t want to go overboard; then this is definitely your pick. With no primer beneath, no matter how much you try to build it up, you won’t get enough flush of color on your eyes. But it definitely works lot better when used over a primer or with a wet brush.
Staying power:- It stays for a decent 4-5 hours without creasing and after that it starts fading.
Summing up my “Likes” and “Dislikes”:-
What I Like about Almay Shadow Softies Eye Shadow in Smoke:
- Pretty shade.
- Awesome texture
- Soft and smooth finish.
- No chunky glitters.
- No fallouts.
- No creasing.
- Decent staying power.
- Cute packaging.
- Reasonable (outside India)
What I don’t like about Almay Shadow Softies Eye Shadow in Smoke:
- Too sheer
- Expensive (if available in India)
Final thoughts:- Overall, a great color for soft smoky eyes with a not so great color pay off, but definitely a great texture. It is great for a soft and subtle look. I find myself pushing it around due to the funny play dough texture. Just love the texture. My only disappointment is its pigmentation, though the company advertising does say a sheer wash of color.
Repurchase? This will last me long, so if not this particular shade, but I want to try a few other from this range.
