Shisiedo Nourishing Mascara Base
Hello my dear beautiful friends,
How are you lovely ladies doing? Today I’m going to review my latest favourite addiction – Shisiedo Nourishing Mascara Base. I’m sure many of you beauties own these mascara bases or primers. But I still think it is, one of the underrated product in our Indian market, maybe because we Indians are already blessed with luscious lashes.!! Anyway, let me add my few cents why I think it is a makeup essential.
What is mascara base/primers?
Mascara base/primer is just like an eye or face primer but for eyelashes. So it basically preps the eyeslashes and lays a good foundation for applying mascara. It helps in avoiding flaking and smudging irrespective of Mascara’s formulation used – like non-water proof, water-proof mascara, (or even expensive/inexpensive mascaras). It helps in volumizing, lengthening and holding the lash curls. And the ‘star’ point – it provides nourishment to the lashes with some best ingredients like castor oil, almond or macadamia oils. Wow!! Isn’t it??
About Shisiedo Nourishing Mascara Base:
The nourishing mascara base creates unprecedented impact by dramatically intensifying mascara finish.

My experience with Shisiedo Nourishing Mascara Base:
Packaging: packaged like a mascara in a cylindrical jet black tube. And the wand looks just like a typical mascara wand for easier application.
Usually the lash primers dries out to a white finish (yes, opaque white in color) so one can know where they have already applied the primer and cover it up with ‘mascara’ thoroughly. But Shisiedo made a brilliant choice by manufacturing its primer in a transparent finish, so now it could be used both as a primer and a transparent mascara. (which is the primary reason I chose this over the other mascara primers)
Usage: Application is similar to a mascara. For best results, apply mascara while the primer is still wet. Alternatively, we could wear this mascara primer alone to give the lashes a glossy, natural looking finish.
My take: I always felt bad about not taking proper care of my lashes – regular lash curling, torturous coats of mascaras, then sleeping with mascara ON (I’m quiet lazy attimes ) and what not!! So now with this primer, I don’t feel that guilty anymore.
I googled about the ingredients list used here and found that these products have minimal chemicals in them and are very effective when paired up with mascaras – like intensifying the volume with just fewer or single coat of mascara and minimising clumping, smudging and flaking – ye, I really mean it!! (Brownie points for that) And more brownies for its moisturising capabilities with some brilliant oils like castor, almond and macadamia.
Single coat – You can see the snap, how it gave a natural subtle finish to the lashes – which works pretty well for nude makeup as well.
Paired with “one” coat of L’Oreal False Lash Architect 4D
What I like about Shisiedo Nourishing Mascara Base:
- Intensifies the volume and length of eyelashes.
- Gives slight curl even without a curler.
- Holds curl for almost upto 8+hrs when used with curler
- Dermatologist and Ophthalmologist tested. NO irritations as such.
- Contains castor and Macadamia Seed Oils as the ingredients
- Doesn’t feel heavy when used alone
- Really helps in non-flaking and non-smudging of mascara
- Just a single coat of mascara over this primer added instant drama to eyelashes
What I don’t like about Shisiedo Nourishing Mascara Base:
- Expensive, but again worth the investment for eye lashes
Recommendation: Definitely, an yes.
Although not emphasised like mascara, skipping the mascara primer means you are going to miss the many benefits it has. And unlike the other lash primers in the market, Shiseido Mascara base serves dual purpose as well – the mascara primer when applied alone gives an elegant look while volumizing and conditioning lashes. And pairing up with mascara gives an intense volume and extra oomph to the lashes instantly. Plus I’m pretty impressed with the fact that I can minimise the guilt of excessive lash curling, multiple coats of mascaras if I use this primer.
This mascara base became my HG lately that I’m not minding to sport it even for my grocery shopping.. (I know, it’s too expensive for that), but ladies trust me on this and make sure to try it at least once..cause it’s time to fall in love with your eye lashes all over again..!!
And until then Happy fluttering!!
