How To Cover Pre-Mature Grey Hair
I am sure many of you must have freaked out after discovering your first grey hair! But as we all know, graying of hair is a natural phenomenon usually from the age of 40. But when pre-mature greys start to appear in late 20s or 30s, it becomes a nightmare! The hair strands turn grey when your body stops producing the pigment melanin which is responsible for the dark color of hair.
Causes Of Grey Hair
- Improper diet
- Excessive use of tobacco and smoking
- Unhealthy Lifestyle
- Certain medical conditions
We now take a look at some ways to cover those pre-mature grey hair.
Henna: This is the most commonly used method to treat grey hair. The main benefit is that it is natural & conditions your hair too. Mix henna powder, amla powder, lemon juice & tea water to create henna paste. Apply this on your hair and leave it on for 2-3 hours & wash off thoroughly.
Coloring Your Hair: Another way to cover the greys is coloring which is extensively used today. A lot of brands in the market offer hair colors for different types of hair. Simply follow the instructions given on the pack & apply to your hair. These are quite easy to apply as well. However, the major drawback is that these contain chemicals which harm your hair in the long run.
Highlights: This is a fix for grey hair if there are some grey strands in your hair. Rather than coloring all the hair, you may try out using highlights for those specific grey hair only. This way your greys will be covered & add some style as well!
Grey Hair Shampoo: There are specialized shampoos available in the markets which are specifically meant for grey hair. Some of these are prepared with natural ingredients which do not harm your hair & reduce further graying.
Semi Permanent Dye: This is another option if you want to cover only some specific grey strands but do not wish to go for highlights. A semi permanent dye lasts for around 6 weeks & tends to fade progressively with shampooing & exposure to air. However, since these need to be reapplied once the color fades off, so using them again & again can damage your hair in the long run.
Spray-On Color: This is a quick fix to cover grey strands of hair especially when you are in a hurry. These cover grey hair for a shorter time span & are definitely not long-lasting.
Black Tea Remedy: Black tea is another great remedy for grey hair which is natural as well. Simply boil 2 tbsp of tea leaves & let it cool at room temperature. Then apply this on your hair & rinse with cold water. Since black tea is rich in caffeine, it adds shine to your hair & eventually darkens them.
Rosemary & Sage: Rosemary and sage are also widely used for covering grey hair. These help in promoting hair growth & improving the pigmentation of hair, thereby treating premature graying. Take half a cup of rosemary and half a cup of sage and boil in water for 30 minutes.
Allow it to cool for 2 to 3 hours & apply to hair. Once dried, rinse off with a shampoo. Try this for a few weeks to treat grey hair.
