How To Perfect Strobing
Strobing is definitely an art and not at all an easy art! I have tried and failed a several number of times and today if you ask me what it is exactly, I can only tell you that it is one form of highlighting your face. It is very much dependent on the technique one follows, to get a perfect face that you could say that the strobing has been done perfectly. I am listing a schoolbook like step by step procedure that one could try to do and see if the results match your expectations.
The first and foremost step for you is to find yourself a hydrating moisturizer that nourishes your skin and removes the dryness totally. If you have an oily skin, use a compatible oil controlling moisturizer. Your moisturizer is the base of your makeup and it should be carefully chosen to avoid a mismatch that would become visible at the end of the entire strobing exercise and make you look like a shiny piece of cheese.
Step 2 – Choose a Highlighter matching your skin tone
If you have a fair skin tone, go for champagne tone highlighter, you can go for a pink tone highlighter if you have a light medium skin. You must go for terracotta tones if you have a dark skin tone. If you end up choosing a wrong highlighter, you would obviously highlight wrong parts of your face which should not be visible or prominently become the center of attention.
Step 3 – Use the highlighter only where required
Always use the highlighter on the face spots like cheekbones, temples, nose, below the eye brows, corners of the eyes and above your lips. Do not use it on your chin and forehead if you already have an oily skin. If you do so, this would lead to aggravate the already visible and prominent shine in these areas. Do not dab the entire face with the highlighter to save time as it would become a reason to regret later with the entire face looking shinier and funny.
Step 4 – Blend the Highlighter well
After applying the highlighter, blend it with fingers or a damp sponge to spread it overall and to remove the makeup lines, if any. Do not leave the highlighter undone as it would look very bad at the end of your exercise.
Step 5 – Apply a matte bronzer
If you are using a shiny highlighter, you must use a matte bronzer. Especially if you have an oily skin, do not go for a shiny after product like face powder, bronzer, blush or primer. Always go for a matte finish as it would avoid making you look like a shiny disco ball.
Strobing as well as contouring need to be done pretty carefully as these are the two exercises which require a lot of patience and the result is only visible after the entire makeup is done and you cannot reverse the results until and unless you would want to repeat the entire exercise all over again. As I said when I began the blog, it is an art and not at all an easy art that you could do again and again. But at the same time, one gains perfection with time, so practicing it would definitely lead us to get better with time.
