How To Create The Geisha Look
Set The Base: To replicate the Geisha look, you need to create a perfect & flawless complexion. This is why it is very important to set the base right. The first step in Geisha makeup involves warming up a waxy substance called Bintsuke-Abura until it forms into an oily consistency. This is then applied to the face. Then, a paste is created by mixing white powder and water and applied all over the face & neck. Typically, a line of bare skin is left around the hairline and nape to suggest a mask-like effect.
To create this look, start by moisturizing the face & then use a high-coverage foundation & concealer to cover all the spots, blemishes & dark-circles & blend well. Next, apply loose powder to set all the makeup in place. Try to use the lightest shade possible in order to create a mask-like flawless effect.
Well Groomed Eyebrows: Geisha sports perfectly groomed brows. Their eyebrows are set with black liners since the natural ones are covered with white powder paste. To create this look, first brush your brows & then fill in with a brown eyebrow pencil. Make sure that the brows look natural & well-defined.
Eyes: You will need a light-colored eyeshadow such as beige or yellow to dab on the lids. You can even add a hint of pale pink color but make sure to blend the colors well for a smooth finish. Along with this, a Geisha also adds a hint of red around the eyes. You can use a red or a hot-pink eyeshadow for the outer corners of the eye. The next step is to line the eyes using a black liquid or a gel eyeliner as close to the top lash line as possible. Another layer can also be added for a thicker line. The Geisha also creates a tiny wing at the corner of her eyes. Finally, complete the eyes by putting on a pair of false eyelashes.
Lips: Start by drawing the lips with a red lip liner. Then fill in with a red lipstick that adds a subtle glossiness as well. You can also pick a pink lip color for the lips. The lipstick can either be applied on the complete lips or only on half lips since the other half is covered with white color.
Hair : A Geisha sports a well styled updo & the hair are properly set into place. If you have long hair, then you can try out a Geisha bun, else you can get hold of a wig as well. Along with clips & pins, you can also arrange some flowers on the side of your head or along with the bun.
A Geisha typically wears a Kimono & makes sure that her neckline is exposed. This is considered the most sensual part of a woman’s body in Japanese culture. The Kimono is colorful & adorned with embroidery. Along with this, she also wears high wooden shoes to keep her kimono from dragging on the ground.
