5 Common Myths About Acne

How are you enjoying the summers? (being sarcastic ๐Ÿ˜› )

On my recent visit to the parlor I was ร‚ย enlightened with some amazing knowledge by the owner of the parlor, who is a dermatologist by profession. So, I decided to share the piece of advice given to me with you all. More than giving advice she enhanced my knowledge by busting some common myths about acne. She told me how her patients, mostly teenagers, fret about acne and without the right knowledge tend to do more harm to their skin. I had to admit sheepishly that I too commit some mistakes which she called “horrendous” ๐Ÿ˜› just because we lack the right knowledge sometimes.

Let us look at the common myths and bust.


Some people believe in this and end up washing their face numerous times a day, sometimes scrubbing vigorously and using harsh astringents. We know that our skin produces some oil that is required to maintain the moisture of the skin and people with oily skin tend to have a little more oil production than normal skin, thus acne is common with oily skinned people. and washing the face again and again though removes the excess oil present on skin but it also leads to more oil production since our mind triggers the oil producing gland whenever the oil on the skin is washed away. you see! and we always believed washing the face leaves it fresh. ultimately, this can lead to irritated, traumatized skin that looks worse.


Some people squeeze pimples in an attempt to try to open up a clogged pore. However, this usually leads to further inflammation which makes the acne look worse and last longer. I admit, I have done this so many times

But now, I won’t.


Many people with acne have oily skin , so for a time people thought that greasy foods should also be avoided. However, a number of studies have shown that downing foods like french fries, cheeseburgers and chocolate doesn’t have any impact at all on your skin’s health. But we should still avoid them for the sake of our bellies ๐Ÿ˜› Also, eating junk doesn’t effect acne breakout but getting grease or dirt on your skin , either through pollution or anyway can make your skin oily and hence leading to acne breakouts and clogged pores.


You don’t have to suffer silently with acne. There are treatments available to clear up acne breakouts and help prevent future pimple problems. Don’t just leave a pimple to swell and mark your skin. There are plenty of treatments- both over-the-counter and prescription – available to help unclog those pores and clear up an acne breakout.

We do this normally – at least i have done ๐Ÿ˜› But not from now


Although, i don’t think this practice is adopted in India, but as a dermatologist she provided me with some more information. We have friends from abroad here and if this is somehow rampant there, just know not to invest in this just to get rid of acne. Not only does tanning is harmful for acne, it can damage your skin too. The World Health Organisation has found tanning beds to be a risk factor for the development of skin cancer. There is absolutely no reason that anyone should ever use a tanning bed for acne or any other ร‚ย purpose.

    I have been one lucky girl to have no acne! Though recently a hormonal pill gave me 2-3 acne, but using Cetaphil cleansing lotion was a boon. I have always heard great stuff about . It is reasonable and easily available at any chemist shop. Worth being tried

        Also, it’s important to toss your regular face wash n use cetaphil twice a day.
        I saw results within 2 days. You might take at most a week or two for visible results.

        • i am gonna try it now princa. i dont have much breakouts and most of the time my skin is all clear but it is when i dont get periods, these start to pop up, one or two maybe ๐Ÿ˜› i am all day in sun and pollution and that hardly make me have a pimple. so my face is not covered with that. still for those bad days, i will keep it handy. and thanks so much ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. I get pimples only due to my periods after that they vanish on their own…! But I tell you they appear at very wrong times..! :-((
