Hello, beauties!

Happy Saturday to all my lovelies! Today’s post is a bit different from the general ones as this is something about a traditional cure. Yes, this post is about an Ayurvedic treatment that has been in our country for ages but sadly, very few of us know about it. I am talking about Oil Pulling. Those who know about it will know its benefits too, but for those who don’t this is an extremely useful and age-old method to whiten teeth and get rid of any oral issues. Scroll down to know more!

What is Oil Pulling?

Oil Pulling is a simple act of swirling natural and organic oil in the mouth for 20 minutes and then washing it off to improve oral health to a substantial level.

History Of Oil Pulling:

This technique of Oil Pulling (ancient Indian technique name: Gudunsha) started thousands of years ago and this has been mentioned in Ayurveda sashtra. In recent times, Dr F Karach used it first in 1990’s to his success and since then people are more inclined towards it.

When to do it?

Many people suggest morning is the best for this method though many doctors say that it can be done after every meal to get maximum protection.

How to do the procedure?

The procedure is really simple. Just follow the steps-

Take 1-2 tablespoons of oil into your mouth. You can use any organic oil of your choice but the most recommended ones are Sesame Oil and Coconut oil.

Swirl in your mouth for 20 minutes which will help to remove plaque and any other infection from the mouth.

Spit it in a can and then wash your mouth.

Benefits of Oil Pulling:

There are a number of benefits of Oil Pulling though some don’t accept the benefits as such. The ones who have used it have claimed that it has improved their oral hygiene. It has dissolved the plaque and removed the toxins without harming teeth or gums. Not only this has increased their oral health making the teeth whiter and less sensitive but also improved other health conditions like skin conditions, arthritis, asthma, headaches, hormone imbalances, infections, liver problems. Way to go!

Side-effects of Oil Pulling:

Thankfully NO!

Oil pulling is done by a traditional method which involves the use of all natural oils and so it is considered safe by one and all. Though some people deny its benefit, no one has ever pointed out any side effects.

Who can do this method?

Generally, everyone can use this method but the following people can use this on a more regular level.

Children: Children can definitely use this method but make sure they don’t swallow the oil.

Pregnant Women: Consultation with the gynaecologist is essential for pregnant women before using this process. Oral health is really important for pregnant women and so this natural way can be really helpful.

Nursing Women: Generally, it is considered safe for nursing women to use this method.

Dental Issues: Thos who have dental issues can definitely use this method to cure their issues. As the oils are really natural, there won’t be any side effects as such.

Which Oil should be used?

Though there is no particular variety of oil for this purpose, there are some oils which work better for some conditions.

For teeth whitening, coconut oil works best. It is also helpful in removing some kind of bacterias.

Sesame Oil is the most recommended oil but it is only appropriate for those who are non-allergic to Sesame seeds.

You can also use Sunflower Oil as it is quite mild in nature.

PS: Never use vegetable oil, canola oil, soybean oil, corn oil or olive oil as these are rich in Omega-6 acids and are considered harsh for your teeth.

Does this really work?

Now, this depends on man to man. If you have some ordinary oral issues like Bad breath or Plaque issues or Discoloration of teeth, this method is really effective. But if you find no improvement in your oral conditions in your oral health. you need to consult the doctor.

That’s all folks! Hope you have liked my post. 🙂
