Avon Naturals Tea Tree & Thyme Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review

Avon Naturals – Tea Tree & Thyme Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review

I’d ordered this shampoo from Avon last November and got the 100ml bottle 1st to test it out. Then when it was on offer again, I bought the 200ml bottle as well. I’ve have been using this shampoo for almost 5 months now and I can safely say that it does nothing for dandruff! Are you wondering why in the world would I go and buy a bigger bottle if it was ineffective?? Read on and I’ll soon tell you why-

Avon Naturals – Tea Tree & Thyme Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review+removes dandruff anti bacterial properties

The shampoo comes in a squeezy plastic bottle with a flip-top cap. The cap shuts tight and the product doesn’t leak. The mouth of the bottle is of the right size and is thus easy to dispense the required amount of product.  One concern is that the cap is held together by weak plastic hinges. I use my products carefully so it wasn’t an issue. But when someone borrowed a bottle the cap had broken.

Color & Consistency:

It is translucent white in color. The consistency ranges somewhere between a gel and a lotion….somewhat like sweet corn soup :bowl: 😀

Smells like a mix of tea tree and aloe vera… very herbal yet not the nauseating kind. It is quite mellow and fades away within an hour or so.

Avon Naturals – Tea Tree & Thyme Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Review+good foaming anti dandruff remedy shampoo

My experience with Avon Naturals Tea Tree  & Thyme Anti Dandruff Shampoo:-

I have very oily scalp and hair but the ends of my hair turn dry since I need to use a shampoo frequently. Due to a lot of travelling and stress (not to mention all the different kinds of water in each place) I’ve developed moderate dandruff that sometimes turns severe. I know a good medicated shampoo will help but I wanted to try something herbal since most medicated ones lead to frizzy hair or hair fall or both. In the first few washes, I found myself using a lot of product since I felt it didn’t lather well. Then I figured out how to use it. I wet my hair, take a coin sized amount of product, massage lightly and rinse. I then take about a teaspoon of product and do a double rinse.

What I noticed right from just 2 washes is that it makes my hair really soft, smooth and shiny. It is truly nourishing and I don’t find the need for a conditioner. It also reduced itching and discomfort. It worked wonderfully in winter. But in this awfully humid summer, I find that this weighs my hair down a bit. I like my squeaky clean in this weather, so I use my regular shampoo (Herbal Essences Body Envy: U can read the review here)   and follow up with this so that I can forgo my conditioner. As far as dandruff is concerned, I found no difference whatsoever.  I feel this will suit dry hair really well and may work on dry, flaky dandruff. On my oily dandruff, this is quite ineffective.

I believe this can also be used to clean makeup brushes since tea tree has anti-bacterial properties. Plus, it’s mild, herbal and will keep the bristles of brushes well-conditioned. You can also use it to wash your pets or your brother’s dirty old sneakers or your grabdpa’s wig or….what??!  I’m just trying to help you find alternate uses for this product OK. :cute: Would hate too see anything go to waste :shy: One more point to note is that one bottle goes a long way. When I was using the 100 ml bottle, I was taking out too much product each time and thought it would barely last me 2 weeks. But it lasted much more than a month. The 200ml bottle lasts for 3 months easily. So, this is a great budget buy.

What I like about Avon Naturals Anti-Dandruff shampoo:-

  • Easy-to-use packaging
  • Mellow, herbal fragrance
  • Nourishes and conditions hair

  • Relieves itching
  • Will suit normal to dry hair really well
  • Can be used to clean makeup brushes
  • One bottle lasts long
  • Reasonably priced
  • No parabens
  • Avon does not test on aniamls

What I don’t like about Avon Naturals Anti-Dandruff shampoo:-

  • Does not work on oily dandruff
  • Will not suit oily hair especially in summer since it weighs hair down
  • Flip top lid is a bit fragile and needs to be handled with care
  • Contains sulphates and silicone

Rating: 3.5/5

Final Verdict:

This is a nice nourishing and conditioning shampoo and I’d even recommend this to those who don’t suffer from dandruff. As for me, I’m going back to my Scalpe shampoo (read review here)Though it did not do anything for my oily dandruff, there are others who have benefitted from using this. So do give it a try and see if it works for you. Coz even if it doesn’t, you can follow the tips I mentioned above to finish it up :giggle:
