China Glaze Nail Lacquer Jolly Holly Review & Swatches – Hello ladies! Today, I’m going to review a nail lacquer called Jolly Holly, which is from the China Glaze Holiday collection of 2010. I showed you China Glaze Glittering Garland a while back, and Jolly Holly is Glittering Garland’s fine-shimmer version.

Price: INR 590 at Jabong

Colour: China Glaze Jolly Holly is a dark, glowy forest green shimmer. Like Glittering Garland, the green in Jolly Holly is yellow-toned. I wish the polish was a tad lighter, because it almost looks black in dim lighting.

Finish and application: The shimmer in Jolly Holly is fine (though not fine enough to be categorised as a frost). You may end up with a brushstroke-y finish if you don’t apply it carefully. However, I doubt the brushstrokes would be noticeable as the polish is so dark.

The formula is great, as I expect from China Glaze. The polish is not too thick or too thin. It applies smoothly and evenly. The brush is flexible enough and easy to control.

Another thing I want to add is that even after two years of using Jolly Holly, it hasn’t thickened at all. I haven’t added thinner to this polish even once, and that’s very rare. China Glaze definitely deserves bonus points for this!

  • Pigmentation: Jolly Holly is highly pigmented. It’s opaque in one coat, but looks better at two. To be fair though, I never stop at one coat and always do a minimum of two, out of habit.
  • Staying power: I usually begin to get tip wear after a couple of days of wearing Jolly Holly. While that would be satisfactory for a local brand, I expect better from a brand like China Glaze that I pay so much for. 500+ rupees for nail polish isn’t cheap.
  • Availability: Some online stores in India sell China Glaze, but I couldn’t spot this shade here.

What I like about China Glaze Nail Lacquer Jolly Holly:-

  • Beautiful, rich colour
  • Doesn’t thicken over the years
  • High pigmentation
  • Smooth application
  • Firm, yet flexible brush
  • Big 3 Free

What I don’t like about China Glaze Nail Lacquer Jolly Holly:-

  • Tip wear after two days
  • Almost looks black in some lights
  • Availability

Rating: 3.5/5

Overall, China Glaze Jolly Holly is a gorgeous lacquer. But without a doubt, I would choose its cousin, Glittering Garland, over this one.

    • I don’t think it has enough yellow to be an olive green. But yes,it’s too dark.
I guess we buy them because dark shades look a lot prettier in the bottle :p
