Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion
I am back after a super long hiatus! Actually it’s been so long that it feels like the first time I am writing a review for wiseshe. Thanks a LOT Anamika for allowing me to write again for you 🙂 I can’t wait to be a part of this family once again!
Ok coming to today’s review. Today I will be reviewing the Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion. My first tryst with Clinique goes way back to nearly 3 years ago when I was convinced by the SA to purchase the 3-step kit for oily-combination skin (type 3) as she assured me that it would help me immensely with my acne-prone oily skin (yes, I have terrible skin prone to breakouts 🙁 ) The 3-step broke me out TERRIBLY! I initially thought it was my skin purging like the SA had said would happen, but when my skin showed no signs of the slightest improvement even after 3 months, I dumped them and my skin began to get better.
Fast forward to recent times 😛 and I found myself accompanying my friend to the Clinique counter. As always, the SA tried to sell me the same 3-step (grr!) However, I was in a chatty mood that day and I ended up telling her about how it didn’t work for me, and it broke me out and all. For that she told me, ma¡m you probably have really sensitive skin, and this product will help you immensely with it! Oh well, one pro led to another pro (I mean what she was telling me about this product) and I ended up leaving the counter with this product in my bag.
How did it fare? Read on!
About the Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion
My price tag manages to cover half its claims. So here’s what it says on the Clinique webpage bout this:
Dermatologist-developed. Allergy tested. 100% fragrance free.
Comfortable, alcohol-free exfoliator helps create smooth, glowing skin that looks younger, healthier. Gentle enough for sensitive skins. Non-drying. Use on cotton ball to apply to face/throat twice daily. For external use only. Avoid eye area.
Price: INR 1750 for 200ml
Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Biosaccharide Gum – 1, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Salicylic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Powder, Arginine, PEG-10 Soy Sterol, Ceteth-20, Panicum Miliaceum (Millet) Seed Extract, Dimethicone, Ceteth-2, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Cetyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Green 5, Yellow 10
Shelf life: 24 months
Packaging: It comes in a simple and hard transparent plastic container and has a big round mouth, with an oblong green screw-off cap. Since this bottle doesn’t have any pump or stopper with a hole, one has to be really careful with it, otherwise you will dispense more than the required quantity.
My experience with Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion:
Fragrance and texture: It is supposed to be fragrance free but it is not entirely so. It has a weird medicinal smell which I don’t like but its ok since it doesn’t really translate to the skin and doesn’t last long. Guess by fragrance free, they mean no presence of external perfumes. The texture is a runny liquid which is slightly viscous. Not entirely thick but a very slight sheen of viscosity is evident.
How to use: Apply to a cotton ball and rub all over face ONLY once. Do not use it over the same area again. As told to me by the SA
My take on it:
I so badly wanted this to work and turn into my HG toner but sadly it didn’t work for me at all L Well let’s get into the details. I’ve been using this toner religiously for 3 weeks and this is what I have to say about it. On applying it at first, I didn’t feel very clean or fresh, rather it felt kinda soapy on my skin. I let it dry before applying my moisturizer and then I realized that my skin was PERFECTLY moisturized and I didn’t require moisturizer after all! After an hour, I noticed my face get little more oily than usual L and it wasn’t shiny kinda oily, it was damp! Like how your skin tends to get during monsoons with high humidity around.
I tried to use it religiously with the hope that it might help me out somehow but no L it did NOTHING for my skin. Absolutely nothing! Didn’t clean up my skin. Didn’t give me a fresh feeling. Didn’t exfoliate the way I would have liked it to.
Ok enough of me bashing this product now. Yes it didn’t work for me, but when my sister who has extremely dry skin used it, she LOVED IT! She said it was the best toner ever and it smoothed out all her dry flaky skin 🙂
So yes, the bottom line is that this is a great toner for dry skin and it was clearly not made for oily skinned people like me!
Now coming to the pros and cons:
What I like about Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion:
- Great hydrating toner for dry skin
- Alcohol-free so there is absolutely no tightness
- You need a very little amount so this will last long
What I don’t like about Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion:
- This is definitely a big NO NO for oily skin
- I don’t like the packaging, a pump would have been so much more convenient
- Clinique products are not easily available
Will I re-purchase it? No! It’s definitely not for my skin type. I in fact have no idea what to do with this huge bottle that’s left.
This is a great toner if you have very dry, dehydrated skin. However, if you have oily skin, you should stay away from this.
