Hope you’re all doing good. I haven’t been keeping well for a while, so I needed something to cheer me up. What could be better than a bright, new nail polish? I picked out this beauty from my unused nail polish stash: Color Club Nail Lacquer Wham! Pow! from the Poptastic Collection of Spring 2010. Colour Club is an American nail lacquer brand. Its polishes are Big 3 Free, that is, they are free of DBP, formaldehyde and toluene.
The name of this polish is so accurate. It’s such a blindingly hot, in-your-face neon shade. I wanted to get the whole collection, but my college student budget does not permit that. I had to choose just one, so I settled on Wham! Pow! as I did not own anything like it.
My experience with Color Club Nail Lacquer Wham! Pow!:
Colour: Wham! Pow! is a bold neon orange polish. It’s more of a jelly than a creme. I had a hard time photographing the colour properly. I guess it is so neon that it confused my camera. It looks way brighter in person, like someone could spot your nails from a mile away. Also, since it’s orange, it would look amazing on Indian skin, which tends to have warm undertones.
Finish: As I just told you, Color Club Wham! Pow! has a jelly finish. When I first applied it, I could not achieve opacity even after 4 coats. The visible nail line was really bothering me. So I removed all of it, applied two coats of a white creme, and then added two coats of Wham! Pow!.
Adding a white polish underneath neon polishes also has another advantage. It amplifies the neon quality of the lacquer and makes it even brighter.
Being a true neon nail lacquer, it dries to a matte finish. But it’s not a true matte. The finish is sort of matte-satin, which I’m not too fond of. So I added a topcoat.
Application: The application was mediocre. It’s a bit streaky, but after a while, I got the hang of it. I found that it’s best to apply thinner first coats, and add a thick second coat with a light hand.
Many bloggers have claimed that Wham! Pow! has the best application in the Poptastic Collection, which makes me wonder about how bad the rest were.
Drying Time: The drying time is rather slow. I had to make an extra effort to not hit and smack my hands around so I didn’t ruin my manicure.
Availability: Color Club nail lacquers are not available in India. I order them online from the US.
What I Like About Color Club Nail Lacquer Wham! Pow!:
- A neon colour that pops!
- Suits most Indian skin tones
- Some people will like the jelly finish
- Big 3 Free
What I Don’t Like About Color Club Nail Lacquer Wham! Pow!:
- Slightly streaky formula
- Low opacity due to the jelly finish
- Slow drying time
- Not available in India
Wham! Pow! is a gorgeous nail paint; there’s no doubt about that. But with the application, drying time and availability, it’s not something you can’t live without. Unless you really love the colour, I would recommend that you skip this nail polish.
