Contouring Mistakes You Should Never Make
Facial contouring is now becoming increasingly popular as part of the daily routine. Contouring is giving shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup. It can make a dramatic difference to your face by strategically applying highlights and shadows. Contouring is a hot topic but it’s not easy to nail. In fact, it’s rather easy to get wrong! Here are the contouring mistakes one should avoid.
Choosing The Wrong Shade Of Contour:
The most common mistake made by women while choosing a bronzer is going for too dark a shade. It is important that the shades you choose are in harmony with your natural skin tone. For subtle and effective contouring, pick a shade that is just one to two colors darker than your skin. Any darker and everything will start to look seriously unnatural! Also, bronzer should be applied just below your cheekbones to make them stand out. The matte ones look natural & are thus preferred, but if you want to use shimmer bronzers, then apply them in small amounts only.
Using The Wrong Tools:
Using just the right tools is essential for effective contouring. To get the correct placement, you need tools that will give you precise control of where you apply each product. If your brush is too stiff, it will layer up the product on your face & make blending very difficult. It is always advisable to go gently with an angled fluffy brush. In case your brush is too big, your face may look muddy, and a too-small brush can result in patchy application.
This is the most challenging & tricky part when applying contour. Take your time when identifying your high points and hollows. Otherwise, it would look as if the light is hitting your features in an odd manner. Many women contour the under-eye area by accident. In such situations, the eyes literally glow like a light bulb which looks disastrous.
Wearing Too Much Blush:
Wearing too much blush, when contouring, is another common mistake. Your face has already been highlighted and bronzed, and adding loads of blush would be a blunder. You do not want to overpower the contouring. So, simply add a subtle amount of color on the apples of your cheeks to make it look gorgeous. It’s better to start off with a light hand and gradually build the color.
Not Blending It Properly:
Blending is what brings out all the magic on your face. Blending improperly will lead to a cakey face. Use the right blending brush & make sure that there are no harsh lines. When blending, be sure to not mix the colors up too much & the overall contrast effect should be just right as per your skin tone.
Too Much Highlighter:
Using excessive highlighter will never help in successful contouring. You surely want to look radiant but not glow in the dark. Highlight just the base areas of your face, such as the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow, the top of the cheekbones, the base of the chin and the top of the eyebrows. Go for a highlighter which is only slightly lighter than your natural skin tone & make sure it is sufficiently blended.
