Debarun Mukherjee’s Classic Yet Contemporary Collection Had A Fashionable Appeal At Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013
Mumbai, 23rd August 2013: It was a journey that brought the fashionable past and the trendy present together in a classic theme for a collection called “Ba-Dastoor†(Like Always) at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013.
To display his inspiration, Debarun Mukherjee worked around beige, ivory, red and nude tones for the traditional style story, which was being retold. Showcasing a line of saris, lehengas, layered dresses, kurtas and churidars, the designer recreated the glory of the past on the ramp.
Opening the show with a graceful dance by Rinku Dutt was the ideal start to the very ethnic presentation. The long printed flared jacket with tunic, churidar, and maxi printed tie-up top with printed gathered pant, set the mood of the show. The six saris in the same colour combinations but with a variety of glittering embroidery were kept at their traditional best. The final line of ghagras teamed with heavily embellished jackets or blouses were ideal festive wear.
The retro story of the collection continued for the six men’s wear with short jackets, kurtas, bundgalas, long flared coats and suits. There was a marked sherwani inspiration to remind one of days gone by. Geometric motifs had a touch of tradition, which came alive with block prints, over dyeing, hand embroidery and appliqué. The aged and matte finish techniques added an old world charm to the collection.
For men and women who long for retro chic, then Debarun Mukherjee’s “Ba-Dastoor†collection will be the best offering.
VIJAY BALHARA’S “MUTED MONOLOGUE†WAS A SILENT GLAMOROUS FASHIONABLE OFFERING AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2013
Giving his collection called “Muted Monologue†fashion directions; Vijay Balhara presented a glamorous line of western wear at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013.
Pure cotton, silk, chiffon, georgette and taffeta were splashed with hand embroidery using Indian craft techniques like Dabka, Nakshi, caviar beads and cut daana. Matching the beauty of the theme, the colours were in muted shades of pristine white, olive, khaki, blush and mint, while the glitter of the embellishments added the touch of shimmer. Gliding down the catwalk were models displaying maxis, gowns, skirts with provocative slits and minis, which were ideal formal wear.
The display was a lavish range of formal creations as a white mini under a chiffon long skirt, silver embroidered bolero over white pleated gown; one shoulder floor length maxi and the glittering pale mint jacket with sequined midi were gorgeous. Cropped jackets sparkled under the arc lights teamed with gowns, a long tulip skirt was worn with glitzy blouses, the Grecian draped one-shoulder gown and the final white self designed silver creation were great show stoppers.
When women desire to make that ideal silent fashion statement, Vijay Balhara’s “Muted Monologue†will create a lot of appreciative chatter.
SHILPA REDDY’S “SURIYOTHAI†COLLECTION WAS A STYLISH TRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WOMEN AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2013
Inspired by the 16th century warrior mother and queen “Suriyothaiâ€, the queen of Siam, Shilpa Reddy’s collection of the same name at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 showcased the aspects of feminine strength through the garments.
It was an imaginative, daring collection that offered several stylish options to women who want to make a firm personal style statement.
Creating bridal wear of the unconventional kind, Shilpa used fragile fabrics like tulle, as well as crepe, embellished them with embroidery and stone work inspired by Thai jewellery, which had large accents of gold with precious and semi-precious stones.
While bridal wear has been inspired in the past by African, Greek, Tribal and Roman forms; Shilpa brought to the forefront for the first time, the delicate beauty of Thai ensembles and inspirations. Sophisticated cuts and clean structures were part of the trousseau wear line, which Shilpa offered to brides.
Concept saris in flame red, pale green or sun yellow with very interesting blouses had that distinct Thai influences for the shoulders or necklines. Anarkali kurtas, luxuriously embellished gowns with ornate shoulder emphasis at times were worn with dhoti salwars that made dramatic entries on the catwalk. Embroidered jackets with shimmering inner, worn with cropped harem pants, a gold bodice for a flared mini and a poncho with a fluid lehenga gave a contemporary look to traditional bridal wear.
Closing the show was designer, Shilpa Reddy mysteriously masked as she glided down the ramp in a sensuous red and gold creation to end her collection called “Suriyothaiâ€.
For a look that has all the fashionable style directions that will thrill New Age brides for the coming season, Shilpa Reddy’s “Suriyothai†collection had the perfect options.
