E.L.F Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow Review

E.L.F Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow

Hey there!

The social media obseesed generation cannot afford to look haphazard anywhere near a camera because the moment is bound to be immortalised and splashed across 2-3 social media networks. This has lead to the rising use of HD makeup in recent times.

I had been on the lookout for The Ben Nye Banana powder but due to availability issues in Delhi I decided to look for an alternative. This e.l.f. product is what I zeroed in on, read on to see if I liked it.

My take on the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow:

Let me start by saying that I don’t use foundation, concealer and setting powder every day, I am more of a BB/CC cream person myself.  But because I am part of the social media obsessed generation (:-P), I get photographed regularly and feel the need for flawless skin.

While it’s not really possible for me to introduce foundation to my routine, I thought an HD powder to set my BB cream might help. And boy! Was I right!

Even though I don’t have visible pores my skin isn’t quite flawless. I have marks, laugh lines and the occasional zit that could do with some concealer. This HD powder when used over my BB cream helps in evening out my skin tone, reducing the evidence of fine lines and looks flawless in photos. It controls oil in my T-Zone for 4-5 hours and I am sure when used in tandem with foundation, this will certainly improve. I have been using this for 2-3 months and I have not broken out once, so I can vouch for its non-comodogenic properties.

But it isn’t without its flaws, the first one being the packaging itself. While it looks very classy and sturdy it is messy as hell. God forbid if you peel away the seal of the powder! Because trust me, you will be left with a truckload of powder all over the place! It’s best to poke 2-3 holes into it, I poked in 7-8 and even I am sometimes left with too much flyaway powder.

While it comes with the cutes and fluffiest velour puff EVER! I still have my doubts about using it with this powder, mostly with the hygiene factor. So my preferred method of application is tapping a teeny-weeny bit of powder onto the lid, swirling my Kabuki brush in it and brushing a thin layer all over  my face and neck. With this application method my OCD hygiene issues are dealt with and I get to pat the velour puff like the pet I never had. 😉

What I like about the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow:

  • Suitable for all skin tones
  • Easy to apply
  • Lightweight
  • Classy packaging
  • Hygienic dispension of the product
  • e.l.f. products are not tested on animals
  • Inexpensive
  • Only a small quantity is required per application
  • Non Comodogenic
  • Lasts a good 4-5 hours with minimal fading
  • Versatile
  • Perfect HD powder for dusky beauties and fair ones with the problem of redness
  • Is a perfect setting powder for foundations
  • Controls oil for 4-5 hours
  • The powder puff is the cutest and fluffiest thing ever!
  • Gives a smooth flawless finish in photos, especially ones in daylight

What I don’t like about the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow:

  • Could look a little OTT if not used sparingly
  • If not used sparingly, flash photography can make one look like a Memoirs of a Geisha cast off 😛
  • Can’t be used enough to actually eliminate redness
  • Not very pigmented (both points 3 and 4 are pros for me, but may be cons for those seeking corrective properties)
  • Packaging is bulky and not travel safe
  • It is debatable if the velour puff is the best way to apply this HD powder
  • A close dupe for the Ben Nye Banana powder
  • Almost always out of stock on the e.l.f. website

Would I repurchase the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow? As and when it finishes, I certainly will.

Would I recommend the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Corrective Yellow? It works brilliantly! I certainly recommend it.

  1. Love the way u write Nivy. U seem to love this brand  So many ELF product reviews. Even thought i know loose powders perform better than pressed powders i HATE the mess :struggle: Now we hav one more thing in common….OCD!! 😀 😉

  2. You seem to be madly in love with elf products and given the fact that after so many dislikes..you gave a good review for this..!!
Elf people should hire you as their brand ambassador Nivanya..hehe
Loved the casual flow of thoughts in your review..!

    • Hahaha! My cons were really me nit picking, I like to show both sides of every story but for my skin type, this works wonderfully well.. 🙂
      Thank you though! 🙂

  3. Lovely review nivanya. I’m a BB cream girl myself so its great to see a heartfelt review from someone in the same boat. I am in the look out for a corrective powder, if not this, which do you girls recommend? I need to hide my redness from years of acne pockmarks.

    • I’ll be honest, I am a BB girl because I have fairly clear skin, just some really dark circles and the occasional zit. I have never had acne so this product works brilliantly as a setting powder.
I have never had to suffer from the problems of a pock marked visage so I really can’t answer your question. Perhaps this question is best posed to the makeup ravens like Ana, I am but a mere reviewer… :p

    • Hey Purnima tho I am not a makeup expert, if I may give u an option: I really like Lakme Perfect Radiance Intense whitening compact. I do not have a perfect skin and this compact works beautifully (even when used alone) to give an even tone and glow to the skin. 🙂 otherwise look for any powder that has a little yellow to it.
However, I second Nivyana for this powder. It is a must have. I have been using this for a while and it corrects the skin without any obvious cast. Check it out here:http://beautyjoint.com/face/e-l-f-studio-high-definition-powder.. They deliver worldwide 🙂
