Dal makhni is North Indians most loved dal and you will find no restaurant without it.When I was invited on dinner after my marriage which is kind of a ritual in our family every one served us this dal.This dal is made with lot of patience and more you cook the dal the better will be the flavor.

1cup whole black urad dal(soaked in water over night for 7-8hours)
1/4th cup kidney beans(Soaked in water overnight for 7-8 hours)
1 finely chopped onion
1 finely chopped tomato
3/4th cup tomato puree
2-3 chopped green chillies
1 inch finely chopped ginger
1/2tsp garlic paste
1/2 cup fresh cream
1/2tsp garam masala
1/2 cup stirred cup
4-5 tbsp butter(reduce it to 1/4th if you are calorie conscious)
Salt(according to taste)
red chilli powder(according to taste)
chopped coriander/cilantro for garnishing
Method and preparation
Step1.Pressure cook rajma and urad dal for 25 minutes or till soft.
Step2.Open the pressure cooker lid and mash it and let it boil again for 10-15 minutes.
Step3.Add cream and curd to the dal and stir continuously for five minutes.
Step4.Now take a pan and add butter(you can use oil/ghee also) in it.When hot add chopped onion and ginger garlic paste in it.Saute it till golden brown in color.
Step5.Add green chillies and chopped tomatoes and mash it nicely .
Step6.Add all the masalas and tomato puree in it and saute it again for five minutes.
Step7.Now add the dal and garam masala powder.
Step8.Slow the gas flame and let it simmer for 20 minutes more.
9.Garnish with chopped coriander and those who have used oil and drop a little piece of butter on top.
Serve it with Naan,rice or paratha.
