Easy dahi vada/Dahi Bhalle recipe without fuss/दही वडा

My mom use to make dahi vada on Holi and Diwali festivals and we use to gauge on them continuously for 3-4 days.Now when I got married I tried them this Holi and they turned out really good.I didnt add any green chillies ,onion or anything else in the batter.Tried to make it without fuss and it turned out quite nice.

Ingredients (For 2-3 people)
Cooking time-30 minutes
Split black gram skinless (dhuli Urad Dal )2 cups
Salt to taste
Oil for Frying
1tsp cumin seeds
Sweet/Fresh curd 3-4 cups
For garnishing:-
Roasted jeera poder 1tsp
Tamarind cutney(according to taste)
Pinch of rock salt
Pinch of Cumin powder
Red chilli powder(according to taste)
Chopped coriander leaves

Method of Preparation –
Step1:Soak urad dal for 4 hours and filter the water with the help of a sieve. You can place a muslin cloth in a large sieve and then pour then dal  .This will remove all the water from the dal and make your paste thick .
Step2:Grind the dal and make a smooth water by adding as little water as possible.Add salt and cumin seeds to the batter and beat it to make it a little fluffy.Batter should be coarse and not too thin.
 Step3:Take a pan and add enough  oil to deep fry the vada.To make vada pattie just apply a little water on palm and take a small portion of batter and pat lightly with damp fingers to flatten it.
 Step4: Gently put in hot oil and repeat with remaining batter.Apply a little water on palm. Take a small portion of batter and pat lightly with damp fingers to flatten it. Gently put into hot oil. Repeat with remaining batter and fry till they are golden brown
Step5: Take them out in a tissue paper or paper towel to remove the excess oil.
Step6: Put them in cold water for a minute and squeeze out the water by pressing them with your palm.
Step7: Drop them into the curd and place them in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours.
 Kitchen notes:-
Shape of the vada is completely your choice. If you can’t make flat patties then you can make usual pakora shape.
You can add ginger paste , chopped green chillies and chopped onion in the batter if you want.
You can add 2-3 tsp of powder sugar in it to make sweet curd for dahi vada
