Contouring and highlighting techniques have been making the rounds of beauty blogs in recent times due to the stress on bone structure. Flawlessly high cheekbones, straight noses, angular jawlines and dewy complexions have never been more sought after.
While these techniques look incredible if employed correctly, they have the potential of looking extremely garish and OTT. While everyday contouring is a little taxing, a minute amount of highlighting can be done during winters to make the skin look less dehydrated and more supple. But most drugstore highlighting products in the Indian market are just silver shimmer that WILL look over the top during the day. So I set out to look for an inexpensive highlighting product in my favourite brand, read on to see if it met my standards.

My take on ELF All Over Color Stick Toasted:
While I love e.l.f. Cosmetics due to their business practices and pricing strategy I’ll be the first to admit that their products can be a hit or miss, especially in the Essential line. So if you want to order anything from e.l.f. be sure to research the product reviews religiously to find out if the product is worth it, because even a dollar counts sometimes. 😛
This product isn’t a hit but it isn’t a miss either. It is a very versatile product that can be used as a highlighter with a little clever blending, an effortless body shimmer or even as a hair glitter for mahogany hair. The colour is a beautiful warm bronze that would look perfect on dusky skinned beauties and can lend a warmth to the complexion of cool toned ladies.
While this product provides one stroke opacity which looks brilliant in swatches it doesn’t quite translate in the same way on the face. This is because blending this product is a bit problematic. If swiped on, it has a very warm sheen but if one tries to blend it too much it just disintegrates to a bronze glitter and one needs to start over or risk looking like a Disco Era reject. But if one applies this product correctly with minimal blending, it looks incredible.
Another problem is it’s lasting power, it lasts a mere 2-3 hours on my dry skin, obviously using a decent primer and setting powder improves its longevity but that is a separate scenario. It also has this very strange orange smell that I find very disconcerting but then again, I have a very sensitive nose so most people might not find this a problem.
What I like about ELF All Over Color Stick Toasted:
- Shade collection
- Long lasting
- e.l.f. are not tested on animals
- One stroke opacity
- Perfect highlighting colour for dark skinned beauties
- Travel safe packaging
- Beautiful shimmer
What I don’t like about ELF All Over Color Stick Toasted:
- Can look OTT if not used properly
- Longevity leaves a lot to be desired
- Contains parabens
- Unavailability in India
- Strong chemical scent
- Cheap packaging
Would I repurchase? Nope! I’ll certainly try something else.
Would I recommend it to friends? At a dollar? It’s worth the risk. 😛
