Essential Oils To Reduce Menstrual Cramps
Menstruation cramps can be really painful. Cramping at the onset of menstruation and during the period of menstruation is one of the most common gynecological problems in adolescent and also in adult females.
The throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen may be really annoying, painful and may continue for 2-3 days. We women often reach for an over the counter pain reliever to get temporary relieve. But do you know that these muscle contractions of the uterus can be easily treated with the help of nature? Yes, essential oil is the answer. Essential oils have become truly essential due to their numerous health benefits and extensive uses. From treating medical issues, aromatherapy to massage blends and skin-care DIY recipes, essential oils are used extensively.
So today we will be discussing about essential oils that can reduce menstrual cramps.
Marjoram Essential Oil:

This essential oil will not only relieve all kinds of muscle pain, but will also aid in curing asthma, bronchitis, viral infections and improving metabolism.
This oil relieves anxiety, depression and muscle spasms. Its use as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic product helps in curing painful menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea) that women face from time to time.
Pure Turmeric Essential Oil – Curcuma Longa:
The magical antioxidant and anti-inflammatory spice relieves pain and inflammation. Powerful antioxidant helps prevent free radical damage. It is a gentle intestinal and liver cleanser, easing abdominal cramps, to stomachache and nausea relief, or used as an overall digestive tonic. It has healing properties that cures wounds and treats pimples.
It is a powerful restorative and analgesic pain reliever with powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Good for muscle and joint aches and pains. Yarrow tea facilitates easy menstrual flow and also relieves you from intolerable cramping. Women with irregular periods can get benefits from its usage.
Clary Sage Oil:
ItÂ regulates menstrual cycles, and alleviated symptoms of menopause. It has calming and soothing properties, as well as anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties.
It functions to reduce pain and inflammation. Its antiseptic properties can help speed up the healing of wounds, treat a variety of skin problems and reduce muscle spasm.

Rose essential oil:

Clove essential oil:
Clove has been used traditionally as a spice for thousands of years and I have used clove oil for my wisdom tooth pain too. Thatâ€™s when I thought of using clove oil for menstruation cramps, and it worked wonders. Its antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, antiviral, aphrodisiac and stimulating properties give relief in minutes.
Cinnamon Essential Oil:
The peppery, spicy oil besides treating low blood pressure, fatigue and exhaustion, also takes care of muscle spasms and thus can relieve menstruation cramps.
Peppermint essential oil:
Peppermint oilÂ consists of 28 to 48 percent menthol, which means that it has strong and penetrating properties that can relieve muscle pain.
This sweet little flower is both anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic. Good for relieving stomach cramps, back pain, muscle and joint pain and headaches.
The herbaceous plant from mint family is very effective at reducing uterine muscle spasm, cramping and improving uterine tone.
My favorite combinations:
- 5 drops of marjoram, 3 drops of ginger and 2 drops of vetiver essential oils.
- 3 drops each of marjoram and lavender essential oils.
- Add 1 drop each clary sage, geranium and Roman chamomile.
- 2 drops each of cinnamon oil, clove oil and 1 drop of lavender oil and rose oil diluted in sweet almond oil
- 2 drops each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Chamomile essential oils.
Put these essential oils in carrier oil and massage on the abdomen in circular motions three times daily. Follow with hot water bottle over the area if required. NEVER use essential oils directly on the area. Most essential oils are very strong and must be diluted with carrier oils before use or they will cause burns. So mix with carrier oils to get best and safest results.
