Face Masks – Often the simple remedies to our routine skin care problems can be found in our own kitchen!! Raid your kitchen and you will find that many ingredients used in daily cooking can be used as an ingredient in face packs too! One such ingredient is Ã¢â‚¬ËœfruitsÃ¢â‚¬â„¢. Fruits are packed with loads of vitamins & minerals and the human body benefits immensely from consumption its consumption, both internally & externally..Here`s peek in to the benefits of Ã¢â‚¬Ëœwonder fruitsÃ¢â‚¬â„¢.
*Orange – Peel off Mask :
Do not discard the orange peel but instead, dry them under the sun, powder them. Store this citrus powder in air tight containers. Whenever required, mix a little of the powder with curd and apply on seared or pigmented areas. Wash off with cold water after 15 mins. This mask brightens skin. If your skin is sensitive to curd, mix the peel powder with rose water and apply.
Orange peel works best for people with normal skin. You can apply orange or lemon peel on hands too to get rid of any stains.
* Strawberry for skin :
We all love any dessert with strawberries (I included!). But did you know that are also beneficial to us? Strawberries have cleansing properties. Mix it with curd or milk and apply on face and wash off after 15 mins. To moisturize skin, you may mix a few mashed strawberries with half a cup oatmeal and use as face mask. Leave on for 5 mins and rinse off with cold water. Note that skin eruptions may occur in few cases.
Strawberries also contain antioxidants and thus help to fight free radicals (elements that damage skin). Also, rubbing a strawberry half over your teeth will help strengthen it. These berries also remove toxins from the body.
Or simply pop a strawberry in to your mouth, enjoy its delicious taste while your body gets the benefits of these nutritious strawberries!
*Banana for skin
Bananas contain mainly 2 important nutrients fibre & potassium. The potassium in bananas can reduce high blood pressure. Also, whenever you feel tired, snack on a banana to boost energy levels.
As a face/hair mask : Mash 1/4th of a banana till creamy and apply onto face. Leave on for 15-20 mins. Then rinse with warm water followed by a splash of cold water. For dry skin, mix mashed banana & honey with almond or olive oil and apply onto face &/or body. Rinse after 10-15 mins.
Mashed bananas applied as hair mask can soften dry, damaged hair.
* Papaya skin
Like strawberries, papayas too have cleansing properties in them. Mix them with curd or milk and apply of face. Leave on for 15 mins before washing off with cold water. Or you could simply rub a slice of papaya over your face and splash cold water onto face after 15 mins and see your skin glow!
Like my mom always says, having ripe papaya every morning just before breakfast can build your immune system. Also it is easily digestible & prevents constipation
* Pomegranate for skin
Having a glass of pomegranate juice daily can help lower LDL/bad cholesterol and also make skin look youthful. Pomegranates are also one of the remedy for skin damaged from sun exposure. They also cleanse the body.
*Watermelons for skin : Watermelons are packed with antioxidants & they oxidize cholesterol. They also reduce the risk of dehydration and hence considered an ideal Ã¢â‚¬Ëœsummer drinkÃ¢â‚¬â„¢.
* Grapes for skin : Slice one seedless green grapes in to half and gently crush it on your face & neck. Leave on for 20 mins and then wash off to reduce wrinkles. Also, grape is a regular ingredient in some of the expensive anti-wrinkle creams.
To get the overall benefits of fresh fruits, include different varieties ( 2-3 varieties per day ) in your daily diet. Snack on fresh fruits at brunch or in the evenings instead of snacking on junk food. (Note : The key word here is ‘fresh’!)
