Dals or pulses are essential ingredient in Indian cuisine.  Rice and dal probably is the simplest form of complete meal for any Indian. Pulses are highly nutritious and low in fat and cholesterol.  For vegetarians it is the main source of protein. Many varieties of dals are available the most common being masoor, urad and mug. Besides being widely used in cuisine, lentils are used as a beauty aid as packs and scrubs. Dal packs are rich in mineral nutrients which will make your skin look soft and supple. Lentils can also be used as effective scrubs. It removes all dirt, grime and dead cells from the skin to expose a fresh, soft and supple skin.




Pack to heal sunburn and remove tan

Sunburn and tan are perennial problem for the skin. Now you don’t have to spend much and remove it easily with this pack at home. Soak approx 1/4th cup of urad dal overnight. Grind the dal in mixer and mix it with yoghurt and apply it over face and neck. Keep the pack for 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water. Carry out this beauty regime every alternate day to see your tan and sunburn vanish within a few days to reveal a lighter and glowing skin.

Pack for soft and smooth skin

This pack is very simple. Take some masoor dal and soak it overnight. Next day make a smooth paste of it and add rosewater, glycerin and almond oil. Apply the pack on your face and neck. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. Skin feels soft and supple immediately.

For acne and prickly heat rashes

Prickly heat rashes are common during summers. To get rid of them and soothe your skin take some red lentils (masoor) and urad dal. Add a teaspoon of orange peel to it and then some cucumber juice to it. Apply this pack to the prickly heat rashes and keep it for 15 to 20 minutes and wash it off with cold water. In no time the redness of the rashes will disappear and give you a soothing feeling.

For Oily Skin

Try this pack to remove the excess oil from skin. Make a thick paste of soaked urad dal add one teaspoon of multani mitti, rose water and 3 to 4 drops of lime juice. This is an extremely effective mask for oily skin.

For a Fairer Skin

Who does not want to look fairer? Everyone does. This is a miracle mask which will make you look fairer. You will simply be surprised to see the results. It is very simple. Soak some urad dal and almonds overnight and grind them to a thick paste. Apply it on your face and let it stay for 20-25 minutes. Wash off the pack with cold water and you will see amazing results.

Dals are not only used in face packs but also as body softening mask. In ancient times when there was no soap packs made from dal was used for body scrubs before bathing. Urad dal was ground coarsely and mixed with other ingredients and applied all over. After some time the scrub was removed by sprinkling some water and removing it with circular movements. The scrub used to remove all dead cells dirt and grime revealing a fresh layer of the skin. DIY dal packs are really effective and have no side effects as they are hundred per cent herbal.
