Vitiligo is a disease which explains itself better as a pigmentation disorder in the human skin. In Vitiligo melanocytes as well as mucous membranes that line the inside of the mouth, nose, genital and rectal areas, and the retina of the eyes are destroyed. Vitiligo Kids

Vitiligo as a disease is becoming widely known but the reason behind this disease is not yet found but it is believed that this disease is hereditary which means, kids whose parents have a history of suffering with Vitiligo are more likely to suffer with it too.

Treatments Of Vitiligo

Scientifically there is no proven treatment to cure Vitiligo completely but many treatments help restore lost skin color temporarily and in lucky cases permanently too. There is no perfect treatment of this, and the various offered treatments vary from person to person. Vitiligo starts as a single patch on any body part and then it gradually spreads. However with proper medication you can control it from spreading to other body parts.

Use Cosmetics To Add Lost Color

Cosmetic options include makeup, a self-tanner and skin dye. Offers safe way to make Vitiligo less noticeable and is  often recommended for children because it avoids possible side effects from medicine.

Medicine Applied To The Affected Skin Patch

Several different topical medicines can re-pigment the skin. Such treatments are prescribed for small areas. The most commonly prescribed medicine is a potent or super-potent topical corticosteroid. About half, 45 percent, of patients regain at least some skin color after 4 to 6 months. A topical corticosteroid may be combined with another medicine to improve results. Topical medicine works best in people with darkly pigmented skin.

Laser Or Light Treatment

This treatment uses light to re-pigment the skin. Patient sits in a light box or receives excimer laser treatments. While Light box is mostly used to treat widespread Vitiligo, laser is used to treat small area. This treatment works best on the face; patients need 2 to 3 treatments per week for several weeks. This treatment at times may be combined with another treatment such as topical corticosteroid.

PUVA Light Therapy

This treatment uses UVA light and a medicine called psoralen to restore skin color. Psoralen may be applied to the skin or can be taken as a pill. This treatment can treat widespread Vitiligo. Psoralen can affect the eyes negatively, so this treatment requires eye exams before starting treatment and after finishing treatment.

Surgery may be an option when light therapy and medicines applied to the skin do not work.  Surgery is an option for adults whose Vitiligo has been stable for at least 6 months.

All of the above mentioned treatments are just possible treatments, but getting it completely cured is a rare cased. Science is yet to figure out the reasons behind this disease and it cures. Vitiligo can decrease your confidence and you might feel a bit awkward in socializing, but talking about the disease openly and living around people who love you will give you a boost. Do, in what you are best!
