How To Outlast Your Recent Hair Color
Have you colored your hair only to find it is fading away way too soon? This can really be disheartening. Especially if it is done in a salon after spending a few thousand bucks. It really doesn’t matter whether you color your hair at home or have it done by the professionals, all you want is to make your hair color last and stay vibrant as long as possible.
But do you know that a few common mistakes can harm your precious hair color? This article talks about all the Dos and Don’ts that you should follow when coloring your hair.
So let us see how can you increase the life of your recent hair color..
Don’t go for the cheapest hair color available. You may also get lured by attractive deals at Salon. My suggestion would be, don’t go for the cheapest. Why am I saying this? Because cheap hair color wears off too fast. So, in the long run, you might spend a few more bucks, but the color will stay vibrant longer. So whether you color at home or have it done professionally, quality products are must.
Don’t use warm water to rinse your hair
Warm water doesn’t only make your hair and skin dry; it will also spoil your precious hair color. Warm water opens up the cuticles of your hair, there by releasing moisture and also your color. So when rinsing out dye wash your hair with room temperature water and while washing your hair after conditioning, use only cold water. You can use cold water both the times if you can. Rinse with the coldest water you can stand to seal that cuticle shut. In this way your hair color will last longer.
Deep condition a week before the color
This can help the hair color grab onto your strands – preventing discoloration and fading throughout time. With deep conditioning your hair will be protected from the coloring chemicals, it will remain moisturized, less frizzy and hair will be less likely to break off during the coloring session and also afterwards.
Wash your hair at least a day before coloring
Washing your hair at least a day before you get your hair colored will help to protect the hair shaft and helps to prevent fading much like deep conditioning. The natural oil works all the magic. If your hair is slightly oily, the dye will better adhere to your hair and last longer.
Use a clarifying shampoo
When shampooing your hair a day before coloring, use a clarifying shampoo to remove chemicals which can alter color and make it less vibrant.
Don’t shampoo right after
Don’t shampoo your hair at all for 24 hours right before coloring your hair. Actually I would suggest you to wait to wash your hair as long as possible. Use dry shampoo instead. It is like a boon to people with newly colored hair.
Use color enhancing/ color protecting shampoos and conditioners in between touch ups
When washing your hair, use a shampoo that will care for your hair color. You can use a violet-based color enhancing shampoo and conditioner.
Don’t shampoo everyday
Most of us are in the habit of shampooing every day, even when our hair doesn’t really need it. Your color will fade more quickly if you shampoo daily. Even if you are using color protecting or color enhancing shampoos.
Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and chemicals in pools
Protect your hair in the sun and chlorine. Use a hair protector with SPF when in the sun, pool, and ocean to keep your color from fading. Also don’t forget to shower cap in water. When going out in the sun, wear hats or scarves. This will glam up your style, as well as protect your hair color.
Stay away from styling tools
Stay away from your styling tools, at least the first week after coloring your hair. This will help prevent the color from fading. If you have to use styling tools, then don’t skip thermal protectants. Thermal protectant will protect against the heat damage from your styling tools.
