White hair at a young age, there can be nothing more annoying and embarrassing than that. Premature graying can be the result of multiple factors. Graying of hair at an early age CAN be a signal of your degrading health. It is an alarm you shouldn’t ignore.

On my last post I was talking about the causes of premature graying of hair at a young age. In this post I’ll be highlighting the methods following which you can stop the appearances and further formation of grey hair.

First lets take a quick look at the causes, that will help you combat the problems better.

The major causes of premature graying of hair are:

  • Hereditary
  • Stress
  • Thyroid
  • Imbalanced diet
  • Unhealthy lifestyle

See, whitening of hair once started in full fledge is very difficult to stop, and no other solutions other than dyeing and coloring work. So the key is to take care of your hair in the initial most stage. So with a healthy lifestyle and proper diet you can definitely delay the graying process.

Premature graying can be a result of vitamin deficiency, especially Vitamin B12. A balanced diet helps in maintaining a great health and great hair. Consume food rich in protein and vitamins, especially rich in Vitamin B12, like tuna, salmon, lamb, beef, cheese, milk and other dairy products.

Iodine is an essential trace mineral that is crucial for the thyroid to function properly. We all know that our Thyroid glands produce hormones, and when our thyroid glands fail to produce enough hormones, we suffer from hypothyroidism (where hypo means under or reduced, plus thyroid. Too little iodine is the main cause if hypothyroidism. So have foods rich in Iodine, like sea vegetables, fish, eggs, spinach, navu beans, strawberries, cranberries, turkey breast, cod, yogurt, etc.

Amla is very effective in treating grey hair and preventing thinning of hair. It even relives itchy scalp and reduces dandruff. Here are a few ways you can use Amla to combat grey hair.

  • You can use plain amla juice to massage your scalp.
  • Massage your hair with Amla juice and lemon juice in a ration of 4:1. Do this every alternate day.
  • Make your own amla hair oil. Mix amla juice with your favorite hairoil and massage on scalp and hair. You can also cut 1-2 amlas, dry a little and put them in your oil bottle. Use it like that.
  • Water soaked with amla overnight acts as a good conditioner and can be used to rinse your hair after a wash.
  • Boil one cup of dried goose berry in four cups of water. Boil the water till its quantity is reduced to one cup. Mix 2 cups of henna, 1 egg and 1 lemon juice in it and apply this mixture on your hair. Keep the paste for two hours and wash it. Don’t forget to condition. Use this once in 10 days.

The demon residing in us, stress is no solution to any problem. I know it is easier said than done, but try to keep excess stress at bay. Practice deep breathing and meditation.
