How To Use Sugar For Skincare

Sugar is generally considered pretty evil by most people as it leads to weight gain & other health problems. But as far your skin is considered, there are many benefits of sugar. You don’t always have to spend loads of money to pamper your skin. There are plenty of natural homemade techniques that you can try to take care of your skin which are not only cheap but natural too.

Sugar or white gold is known to work wonders for the skin. It is one of the most natural products to exfoliate as well as hydrate your skin. Also contains glycolic acid which rejuvenates the skin & keeps it soft & supple. It helps in maintaining perfect oil balance in the skin & also protects against toxins which helps in slowing down the ageing process in the long run & reduce early signs of aging such as skin dullness, wrinkles & fine lines. Brown sugar removes dirt and unclogs the pores. In addition it increases the flow of oxygen and other nutrients thereby healing acne, whiteheads, blackheads, breakouts and other skin blemishes. Sugar is even used to soothe chapped lips.

As Face Scrub:

Homemade sugar scrub is the most natural way to soften, exfoliate and freshen up the skin especially in winters, as exfoliating the top layer of skin helps the moisturizers to penetrate more deep and hydrate longer. It’s fine texture gently exfoliates the skin without leaving any harmful residue which could clog the pores. It has moisturizing properties that prevents the skin from drying. You can make a simple sugar scrub at home by using basic brown sugar, olive oil, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance. Mix 1 cup of sugar granules (either white or brown, but go with brown sugar for acne prone skin or sensitive skin since it is gentler) and half a cup olive oil.

Keep stirring till you get a smooth paste as a scrub. Gently massage the scrub on your face in a circular motion and then rinse well. You may add vanilla essence for fragrance. You can also add other essential oils. Go with tea tree oil if you have oily or acne prone skin, lemon Essence/Oil for all skin types except sensitive skin & avocado oil for dry skin.

As Foot Scrub:


Mix sugar, olive oil & peppermint oil to use as a foot scrub. It helps reduce feet problems such as calloused and cracked heels. It is gentle yet abrasive enough to assist in removing callouses on the heels and soles of the feet. Also it moisturizes the heels to keep them soft and smooth. Peppermint is a natural deodorizer and provides a cooling & relaxing effect as well.

3. Sugar & Lemon:

A combination of sugar & lemon works wonders for the skin. It can be used as a body scrub to whiten and soften knees and elbows, for tan removal & facial hair removal. Mix fresh lemon juice, granulated sugar, honey & olive oil & apply on the affected area. You can add glycerin if you have dry skin.

4. Sugar & Honey Face Pack:

Mix 1 teaspoon of sugar with two teaspoon of honey and apply it on your face as a mask. Leave it to off to dry for 10 minutes and then massage while removing it with cold water. Sugar helps in removing dead skin cells & honey is a natural moisturizer. This face mask will make your skin soft & radiant.

5. Homemade Sugar Wax:

Sugar is also used to prepare homemade wax for hair removal. Mix two teaspoons of granulated sugar & one teaspoon each of honey and water. Heat the mixture in a microwave or on a stove for about half a minute until it bubbles and turns brown. Let it cool & use this to remove unwanted hair on your body.
