Ice Bucket Challenge In Bollywood & Wise She

Ice Bucket Challenge may seem like fun but it is not about fun. Dumping a bucket-full of water on yourself needs some dare. If you are still in dark about this famous dare act then I’ll enlighten you first.

Ice bucket challenge is meant to raise awareness about ‘Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis’ (ALS) which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Life expectancy of ALS patients is really short and once afflicted, most of them do not live beyond 5 years.

There is very little awareness about this disease and prior to the Ice Bucket Challenge, most of us were unaware of ALS. ALS is a very rare disease.

The idea of this challenge is the brain-child of  US baseball player and ALS patient, Pete Frates. He suggested it on social media and thanks to the wide reach of internet, ALS website has received more than $20 million in funds.

The basic idea of Ice Bucket Challenge is to dump a bucket of ice-water on yourself and nominate three of your friends to do it. They have to take the challenge within 24 hours and if they fail, they need to donate 100$ to ALS website.

Many famous persons have taken this challenge including Bill Gates and Hollywood celebrities. Finally it has arrived in India and Bollywood is up for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Sania Mirza nominated Riteish Deshmukh to take it up.

Riteish posted his video online and nominated his friends  Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Siddharth Malhotra, Pulkit Samrat and Ashish Chowdhry. Out of these people, Akshay, Abhishek and Ashish have already taken it.

Bipasha Basu has also been nominated. Recently Sonakshi Sinha posted her video where she requested people to donate money instead of bathing in ice water.

Our very own beautiful Anamika has taken it. You can see her video on Instagram.

Ice Bucket Challenge is an innovative way of spreading awareness about a fatal disease.

Whether you take it up or not, please donate the money if you can.
