Hello, peeps!

Organic makeup and beauty products are the new ‘it’ things in your kitty, all thanks to the growing aversion for chemicals and love for everything natural and cruelty-free. But one of the main questions that don’t occur in your heads – Are the products really organic? Well, the ads say so! Then let me give you a very quick example if you use fairness creams, do you really become fair (and sometimes lovely? Pun intended! čśë ) Well there are many things that companies say but sadly, very few turn out to be true. Same goes with organic claims. There are certain organisations like Soil Association that claim that there is potentially no specific rule for organic brands so any brand can claim to be organic even if they are not.

You will be shocked to know that around 76% of the people felt confused or cheated with the organic label of the brands and so does we. How many of us know what to look for when we are verifying the organic status? Well, I am sure, not many and that’s why this post. There are some tips that can surely help you a lot and if you are interested, then keep on digging!

How to make sure if a brand is organic or not?

  • Logos that speak

The best and easiest way to know if a product is organic is not is to look for the logos. In Europe, there is an organisation called COSMOS that is an amalgamation of Soil Association, BDIH, Cosmebio, Ecocert and ICEA that certifies a product as organic. Look for logos that certify the organic status of the products. This is the easiest and most time-saving process.

  • Know the difference

COSMOS Organics has certain rules and regulations for organic products which you must know. For any brand, to call itself organic, 95% of the ingredients must be organic. There is also a certificate that says if that particular product is organic or not. For that, you need to have 20% organic ingredients for leave-on and 10% organic for rinse-off products. And if a product gets its positive nod from The Cosmos, you can be assured that everything right from colour to fragrance to ingredients are organic and are never tested on animals.

Okay! This is one of the best ways to know that you are putting good things on your skin. Always buy brands that you trust. For this, you can consult Peta’s website where they have a host of brands that offer cruelty-free and vegan products. Also, you can consult Soil Association certified brands. Or else, you can search for brands and do a little research about them. I know it can be time-consuming but prevention is better than cure.

That’s all peeps! Hope you now can make better choices.
