Lakme Absolute White Intense Wet & Dry Compact Golden Medium Review

Finally the wait is over!! A lot of people had requested this review but I had to take my own sweet time to post this since I had mixed opinions about this product. I find it quite surprising that it has been quite a while since this product has been launched in the market and almost every product in the Lakme Absolute Range has been reviewed except for this one. Which also meant that there was more pressure on me since my review would probably make or break a purchase  I do realize that this review is a bit lengthy but I hope it helps you understand the product better :cute:

  • Packaging:

I absolutely adore the packaging! First off, it comes a in a matte black outer carton. The compact casing is made of gunmetal-colored plastic with the simple Absolute logo forming a small dot in the center. I like that there’s no writing whatsoever on the top. The case looks very sleek and chic and is the size of my palm. Once opened, you get a large round mirror that comes with a protective sticker that needs to be peeled before use. The powder comes housed in a plastic disc that can be lifted up to reveal a thick round sponge applicator. It is similar to a make-up sponge and is buttery soft. The best part of this compact is that it comes with a black, velvet pouch to carry the compact in. This is sooo thoughtful since the casing is prone to fingerprints. This way, I can easily pop this into my handbag or makeup pouch without worrying about damaging the packaging. Plus, it looks and feels luxurious…I think I’ve seen a similar pouch with Chanel cosmetics. The only irony here is that the pouch attracts more dust than the compact itself. Nevertheless, it is specified on the compact that this needs to be handled with a lot of care and I don’t think the powder can survive a fall.

Lakme Absolute White Intense Wet & Dry Compact wet dry foundation compact review

My Experience with Lakme Absolute White Intense Wet & Dry Compact:

When the Lakme Absolute range was introduced, this was one product I was darn sure I going to pick. I’ve been avoiding foundations for quite a while now and was looking for a wet and dry compact  since liquid foundations (however light and oil-free) made my skin produce more oil and I’d end up looking light a light bulb at the end of the day.

The shade that I was recommended by the Lakme S.A is 03 Golden Medium. As soon as she swatched it on my arm, the first thing I asked her was if there was a darker shade since I’m so sick of everything looking white on me. I don’t mind looking a bit tanned but I hate looking like I’d just white-washed myself! It turns out, this is the only shade among the 3 that has yellow undertones. The other two have beige undertones. I really wish they had a better & wider shade selection since all these shades may leave a white cast on duskier skin tones.

Lakme Absolute White Intense Wet & Dry Compact + lakme absolute products review

The first step in using this compact is to moisturize your skin. I discovered this the hard way. Since this compact claimed to be moisturizing, I skipped my moisturizer and wore this on bare skin and stepped out. At a store, I tried on a lippie and looked in the mirror the S.A handed me to see how it looked on me. I was shocked to find that my nose was all dry and flaky and I had patches of dry skin on my face! :pain: Considering the fact that I have uber oily skin, this almost never happens. I can’t imagine what this would do to try skin 😯 I noticed the dry patches every time I used the compact, sometimes even on moisturized skin, but only initially. After about 10 to 15 mins, the dryness disappeared and I was left with a subtle glow.

I like that it doesn’t look completely matte since I prefer dewy looking skin.It gives sheer to medium coverage and helps to even-out the skin out fairly well. It also conceals minor flaws and blemishes. When used on dark patches, especially the corners of the mouth, it tends to looks ashy. But this settles down after a while. But if you have dry skin or work in an air-conditioned office, I can’t say if this would sink in well. I initially thought this shade was too pale for my skin tone. But once the powder sinks in, it seems to blend really well and I can’t figure out if I still have the compact on or not. It is because of this that I can’t really figure out the staying power :-/ I believe this does last for 5 hours easily but seriously the 16-hour claim is a bit far-fetched! It surely doesn’t last for 16 hours, atleast not on my oily skin.

As far as texture is concerned, it is really smooth and soft. The sponge picks up a good amount of powder and helps to blend the powder easily. As soon as it is applied, my face does tend to look quite white. But after a few minutes, it settles down to match my skin tone. If I’m looking for light coverage, I use the sponge and blend little powder all over by face and then use a fluffy brush and dust of excess. I’m too scared to use the brush directly on to the pan since I’m afraid it’ll crumble the soft powder. For wet usage, the sponge does not absorb much water even when placed under a running tap. The water droplets seem to just slide off the surface of the sponge. This is good in a way that you won’t end up with a soggy wet sponge and contaminate the compact. But since it doesn’t pick up water getting heavy coverage is a bit tricky. I’ve discovered that the best way to get heavier coverage is to use it on slightly damp (not wet) face. If you have very oily skin, wash your face, pat dry and before all the moisture evaporates, dab on the compact and blend well. But a better method (especially for dry skin) would be to start with cleanser, toner, apply your regular moisturizer and just before your cream/lotion completely sinks in, apply the compact and blend downwards. This way, you will find it easier to blend, not end up with dry patches and get good coverage. If you find the coverage heavy or cakey, simply use a brush (even your regular blush brush will do) and dust off excess. I also like using this over my tinted moisturizer to get a nice dewy finish.

It does control oil to some extent and keeps skin looking fresh. This never gave me any breakouts and it did not irritate my sensitive, acne-prone skin. One point that I simply must mention is that, a couple of times, I’ve slept with this on my face and even then I never got any acne. In fact, skin actually looked better after I woke up

I was going to mark this as “pricey” but decided against it since this doubles up as a compact as well as foundation and most wet/dry compacts are usually highly priced. Plus, the packaging, texture and overall feel of the product tend to justify the price. If Maybelline can sell a regular compact powder with fancy packaging for 400 odd rupees then Lakme can get away with this price tag, right? 😉

Lakme Absolute White Intense Wet & Dry Compact FINGER SWATCH

What I like about Lakme A bsolute Wet & Dry Compact:

  • Stylish, sleek packaging
  • Separate compartment for sponge
  • Large mirror
  • Comes with a velvet carry pouch
  • Sponge is easy to use and is buttery soft
  • Sponge helps in giving even, non-streaky finish
  • Contains SPF 17
  • Mild sweet citrus fragrance that is not overpowering
  • Smooth, blendable texture
  • Gives sheer to medium coverage
  • Dewy finish once it sets
  • Evens out skin tone
  • Camouflages minor blemishes
  • Can be used on damp face or over tinted moisturizer to give more coverage
  • Does not look cakey once it sets
  • Does not settle into fine lines
  • Lasts for 5 to 6 hours
  • Skin looks fresh and radiant
  • Did not cause breakouts or irritate skin (even when worn to bed)

What I don’t like about Lakme Absolute Wet & Dry Compact:

  • Skin looks flaky & dry initially so you surely need to use a moisturizer underneath
  • Limited shade selection
  • Does not last for 16 hours 😛

The last word:

I really like this compact since it is so easy to use, convenient and great for summers when you don’t want to wear heavy, icky foundations. Those with dry skin have to be extra careful and moisturize well before using this. My only gripe is the shade selection and if they introduce more shades I may get another one as well :cute:
