Nicole By OPI Blues in the Night Review & NOTD

Nicole by OPI Blues in the Night

Hello everyone!

I love black nail polish. If worn correctly, it looks incredibly chic and elegant. But plain black nails can become boring after a while. So it’s good to get your hands on a black nail polish with a twist.

The nail lacquer I’m showing you today is called Nicole by OPI – Blues in The Night. The Nicole by OPI nail lacquers are the most inexpensive range offered by OPI, as compared to their main range and the Sephora BY OPI range. The Nicole by OPI nail lacquers are targeted towards a younger crowd and are widely accessible as they are mainly sold in drugstores in the USA.

Colour: Blues in the Night. The name is perfect for this polish. The black base has blue-teal micro-glitter particles that have a strong purple duochrome. The duochrome effect is almost impossible to detect on the nails, but it’s visible in lower lights if you look carefully.

Application: The formula of Blues in the Night is easy to control and goes on smoothly. The brush is long and thin. But Nicole by OPI has changed their brushes since I got this polish. It’s now flatter and shorter.

Pigmentation: The first coat goes on thin and sheer. But a thicker second coat gives complete coverage. The slight sheerness of the black base helps the blue shimmer to shine through.

Finish: Since the polish has micro-glitter-shimmer rather than large glitter particles, it dries to a smooth finish. No gritty feel to it at all. It doesn’t dry to a very high-gloss finish, so you might want to add top coat.

Staying Power: Blues in the Night lasts for around three-four days without topcoat, suffering only minor tip wear.

What I like about Nicole By OPI Blues in the Night:

  • Interesting colour
  • Easy-to-control formula
  • Opaque in two coats
  • Less expensive as  compared to the main OPI range
  • Good staying power

What I don’t like about Nicole By OPI Blues in the Night:

  • Duochrome effect isn’t prominent on nails
  • Not easily available in India

Rating: 3.5/5

Overall, I’m quite pleased with this colour. I’m also looking for other alternatives to plain black crèmes. And I’ll definitely share them with you when I find them!

      • Haha thank you 😀
I was a nail biter too. And I have really short nail beds because of that. But once I started wearing nail polish all the time, I eventually stopped biting my nails because I didn’t want to ruin the effort I put into painting them 😛

    • Sure 🙂 what exactly would you like to see in the post? The nail care tips I use or my manicure routine? Because both contribute to nice-looking nails 😛
