I don’t usually give away all the suspense in the title of a product review, but I didn’t want all you oily-skinned girls out there to think, “Oh, yet another highlighter I can never use coz it’ll highlight my open pores and make me look like a grease ball :sigh:†This one’s a keeper and you’ll soon see why….

The product comes housed in a matte-black, plastic case with a clear lid through which you can see the lovely medley of shades. It appears as if they changed the packaging a bit, since I have a NYX mosaic powder in another shade that I bought a couple of years ago, and that one has a glossy black case.  The packaging feels very light (a tad flimsy even) and seems like it will surely not survive a fall. It does not come with a mirror or applicator (which I’m fine with since those tiny brushes are useless anyway).
The 5 shades in this mosaic include: lavender, peach, yellow, white and tawny beige. All the shades are cool-toned and quite pale. At first glance, you’d assume this is perhaps the worst choice for Indian skin and sometimes it makes me wonder what in the world made me specifically pick this shade since my medium skin has strong yellow undertones. :-/ But the thing is, I’m tired of everything oxidizing and turning dull on my oily skin :-/ and thought that maybe something as pale as this would do the trick. Best. Decision. Ever. :yippee:
Absolutely no fragrance… even when I took a big whiff of the pan up close
Texture & Finish:-
The powder is very finely milled and has a beautifully soft texture. It is easy to load onto a brush and there’s minimal fallout. What I love the most about this is that it blends like a dream even if you end up picking too much product. If you apply too much, you just need to keep blending and it diffuses so well.
In the pan, the shades look chalky and bland…almost boring. But upon swatching, the shades are very pigmented and have a lovely soft sheen Surprisingly, this sheers-down quite a bit on blending. So you can easily layer it up or tone it down according to your liking. This aspect makes this a nice choice for beginners since it is hard to go wrong with this type of blendability.
On my oily skin, this lasts for about 4 hours after which it starts fading evenly. Those with normal to dry dry skin will surely experience better staying power.
What I like about Nyx Mosaic Highlighter:
- Soft, finely-milled powder
- Blends like a dream
- Good pigmentation that can be sheered down or built-up easily
- Gives a satiny sheen to skin
- Absolutely no chunky shimmer
- Minimal fallout
- Blurs pores and imperfections when buffed into the skin
- Subtle highlight. Does not make skin look overly shiny or sparkly
- Can be used on eyes, face and lips
- Mineral-based formula that suits even sensitive and/or acne-prone skin
- Long shelf life
What don’t I like about Nyx Mosaic Highlighter:
- Flimsy packaging
- No mirror or applicator
- Highlights dry patches if you don’t moisturize beforehand
- Not for those looking for intense, bold highlight
- Shades don’t look very different from each other when swatched individually. They all appear pretty whitish and this kinda defeats the purpose of a mosaic.
- Price & Availability in India (it’s actually only $7 but priced high here) 😥
I have this strange habit of intentionally buying just one shade from each makeup product range even if I love the other shades. But I broke that rule with NYX Mosaic powders! This is my second shade from this range and I’m keen on buying a third since these powders are so soft and blendable, do not oxidize on my oily skin and suit my sensitive, acne-prone skin really well… plus, the mosaic looks super pretty :inlove:. I would recommend this particular shade to those who have oily skin and open pores since most other highlighters make large pores appear even more large and scary almost crater-ish. :tremble: However, the effects of this highlighter are quite subtle (just the way I like it) and hence may not be a good choice for bridal use, or for those who like a very obvious and intense sheen on their skin. And oh…you can also use this as eye shadow, or just add a dab on the center of your lips to make them look all pouty
