Outfits For The Coming Durga Puja
Durga  Puja is a festival which defines every grain of the culture in Bengal. Durga Puja is knocking at the door and it is time to get all decked up for pandal hopping and have fun with family-friends. They say a woman looks extremely elegant when dressed in ethnic attires and thus in these 4-5 days of Durga Puja we Bengalis generally prefer our traditional outfit, i.e saree, but there are some outfits which have made place in our list of favourites.
So today I’ll b listing favourite outfits for the coming Durga Puja.
From ancient history to the 20th century, the saree has made a long journey that has sustained it as a garment of fashionable interest to not only the Indian women but women in the west as well. A white tant saree with broad red border is what a bong must have in her wardrobe. This plain white tant saree with red border is the classic look of a Bengali woman. Beside the white taant, there is a wide range of Bengali sarees like Colored Tant, Pure Silk, Jamdani, Kantha Stitch, Pure Cotton , Dhakha, Tangail, Murshidabad Silk, Shantipur Cotton, Phulia Cotton and Baluchari Silk. My favourites are Taant and Jamdani. Jamdani is a cotton handloom fabric and is made with the finest muslin. However one can choose the non-traditional sarees  like shiffon, with zari, zardosi work.
Though this is a very much non-bong outfit, but that can’t stop us from loving it. Lehenga Choli or Chaniya Choli is the traditional Indian outfit which is mostly preferred by women during weddings and functions. This outfits comprises of lehenga- which is a long embroidered skirt, choli- which is a midriff-baring blouse and a dupatta. If you want to look traditional and glamorous too, then chaniya choli is a great option. Like sarees, there are different varieties of Chaniya Cholis. There are traditional Chaniya Cholis with traditional designs of Zari, Zordosi, Resham work, with butis and sequins all over it. Bridal Chaniya Cholis are heavily embroidered with precious stones studded over it. Designer Chaniya cholis give the modern look with an ethnic touch. Even the chaniyas are of different shapes such as Straight cut, Fish tail, Mermaid, Paneled, Circular shapes, Chaniyas with full flair.
Salwar Kameez is a traditional dress used actually by the various people of South–Central Asia, but it is equally loved by the Bengali women. You can choose simple cotton ones or can also go for Punjabi patiala suits which are known for their lively hues, rich fabrics and embroideries.
Another style of the shalwar kameez is the Anarkali suit named after the court dancer from Lahore. The Anarkali suit is a timeless style which has become very popular. The Anarkali suit is made up of a long, frock-style top and features a slim fitted bottom.
Kurti and churidar
Want to be super comfortable and yet want to go ethnic and look smart, stylish and chic? Then salwar kameez is your option. They are easy to wear, very versatile and upper comfortable. Jacketed kurtis are in trend these days.
Ethnic skirts teamed with short kurtis give an awesome indo-western twist. ‘The hemline of skirts can vary from knee to floor-length and can vary according to cultural conceptions of modesty and aesthetics as well as the wearer’s personal taste.’  If you want you can team it with tank tops and sando tops too.
So these are our favourite outfits when it comes to Durga Puja.
Which is your favourite among these?
