Rimmel London Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet Orange-Ology Review & Swatches

Rimmel London Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet Orange-Ology

Hi Sweeties,

Today I want to review another shade from the best selling range of matte lip velvets of Rimmel London. It has not been released in India yet. You can get this from several international online shopping sites on offer. I really liked Orange-ology shade while checking out swatches. Also I love orange shades a lot, and this shade in particular is a true orange shade. I can really never have enough of orange lipsticks and peach blushers. 😀 So let us check out the review and find out if this lip velvet faired really well.

My Experience with Rimmel London Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet Orange-Ology

Shade: Orange-ology is a true orange shade. This shade again is bold and will be liked by people who prefer tangerine lips more. These days we have so many orange lipsticks in market in drugstore brands that you can easily find a dupe of this shade in market. It is a pretty summery shade and brightens up my look each time I wear. I pair it with blue liners most of the time for a bold look. This shade is not a must have one from this range as it is easily dupable.

Pigmentation & Coverage: This shade is pigmented but not as pigmented as Burning Lava and Meteoric matte from this range. It imparts semi opaque coverage with one swipe and does not cover pigmentation quite well. It applies unevenly on my lips. This shade like burning lava bleeds and gets messy at the corners of my lips. Check my lip swatches carefully to understand what I mean to say. If you have lip lines and chapped lips, steer clear from this shade, as this lipstick will be unforgiving and has tendency to bleed.

Texture & Finish:

This lip velvet has velvety texture to it and glides easily on my lips. It has satin finish when I apply 1-2 layers but it refuses to settle down. Again like burning Lava, it sets into semi matte finish after half an hour or so when used a stain. Whenever I use it as a lip color, it has tendency to seep at the corners of my lips. Though it is lightweight, it feels greasy as if I have applied some kind of oil on my lips. It definitely contains castor oil to impart a velvety finish but I feel a bit more oil has been added than required. I feel Rimmel should consider reformulating this range. Shades are so pretty but formula is a bummer. This formula however never makes my lips dry.

Staying Power: As a lip color, it refuses to set and thus can bleed and needs to be blotted. As a stain, it stays for 4 hours or so. As a lip color, it gets messy and fades unevenly. Burning Lava was better, orange-ology bleeds more. I prefer to use it as a lip stain most of the times. I would advise guys to use a matte lip liner underneath it to enhance its staying power and to prevent bleeding. Due to addition of extra amount of emollient to impart a velvety finish, this formula backfired and refuses to set.

What I liked about Rimmel London Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet Orange-Ology?

  • It is a true orange shade that would flatter all skin tones.
  • As a stain it sets into semi matte finish.
  • It is not even a bit drying.
  • Keeps my lips hydrated and supple for a long time.
  • It is pigmented and imparts semi opaque coverage.
  • It is very lightweight and not sticky.
  • Stays for nearly 4-5 hours as a stain.

What I did not like about Rimmel London Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet Orange-Ology?

  • Not yet released in India.
  • It refuses to set on my lips.
  • Seeps into fine lines and looks uneven.
  • It does not set to complete matte finish even when used as stain.

Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Will I repurchase it? No, I really don’t think so. It is easily dupable and I did not like its excessively oily formula.

My Overall Recommendation: From this range of matte lip velvets from Rimmel I would recommend all to try the shade Burning Lava and Meteoric Matte. Orange-ology feels very lightweight and non sticky and is pigmented with creamy satin finish. However, it refuses to set on my lips whenever I apply 1-2 layers. But as a stain, it sets within 15 minutes to semi matte finish. Orange-ology imparts semi opaque coverage and applies unevenly and has tendency to bleed and seep into fine lines. This shade is easily dupable, so I think you can give it a miss easily.
