Red lips have been a sign of sophistication and royalty from time immemorial. Even Cleopatra was known to use pomegranate seeds to redden her lips for that seductress charm; that she has been attributed with.
The allure of red lips have lead me to try a quite few red lipsticks. While I can never claim to be a professional, I have certainly seen my fair share of red lipsticks. The lipstick I am now going to review was one I purchased from an online shopping  portal, on a mere whim. I didn’t even look at the swatches, so I was pleasantly surprised to see a colour that worked against my dusky skin tone. Read on to see if it scores high in other avenues too.

Quantity: 4 grams
Packaging: The lipstick comes in the traditional bullet type packaging favoured by most drugstore companies. The sticker at the bottom clearly indicates the shade, hence making it easy to locate in the vanity. The twist up mechanism functions perfectly and the case snaps shut tightly, making it travel safe.
The Rimmel logo embossed on the top of the bullet, lends an air of sophistication, to the otherwise drab and minimalistic packaging.
My take on Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick 170 Alarm:
My love for red lipsticks has only grown with each passing day. I love the instant glamour that it adds to an everyday college outfit. I can pull it off without looking too OTT because of my dusky skin, so I thank the stars for that!
This red lipstick has now become my staple replacing my trusty Maybelline New York Fatal Red. There’s no doubt that this lipstick has its flaws but it’s brilliant price point and vibrant colour more than make up for the flaws.
Rimmel revised the prices from the previous 215INR to 250INR, but they are still exceedingly affordable. The range of shades is also admirable, you are bound to find one that suits you to a T.
The shade is vibrant and adds an instant pop of colour. The texture of the lipstick is a tad firmer than most, and leaves a semi matte finish without too much accentuation of fine lines. But I would still suggest proper exfoliation before application for a finer finish. It does accentuate dry patches and isn’t quite the perfect winter lipstick, but one can’t expect better from a semi matte formula.
While touted as long lasting the lipstick lasts only for 4-5 hours, after which it begins to fade unevenly. This lipstick has the tendency to settle into fine lines after 5-6 hours, so it’s better to swipe it off and reapply.
But despite all its flaws, I do love this lipstick even if reapplication in the middle of the day is almost mandatory.
