Today is the last day of my Navratri fast and I am waiting for tomorrow.Staying away from salt, wheat and dal was certainly not easy for a foodie like me.I have even started dreaming of pasta in my dreams .Thankfully there were few things which were of my liking and they didn’t let me break down in during my fast journey.
Kuttu ki puri or kuttu ki roti was quiet filling and tasty as well.Poornima yesterday asked me about Kuttu? Kuttu is basically Singhara which is a fruit .This fruit is meant to be holy and therefore we eat it during fasts.Quiet popular in North India they are easily available in all malls and food bazzar.Many people call it is vrat ka aata .
Kuttu ki roti is a chapati recipe which can be eaten once during fasts which is quick to make but do requires little practice.The dough of kuttu is light in consistency so making round chapati is little difficult.If you know how to make makki ki roti then you surely can make these easily.
How to make Kuttu Ki Puri:
1 cup kuttu atta (Buckwheat flour)
1 cup singhara atta (water chestnut flour)(optional)
2 boiled and mashed potatoes
1 green chilli finely chopped
Finely chopped coriander leaves
Method and preparation:-
Step1 -Mix all the ingredients together and make dough with minimum of water.
Step2 – Make balls and flatten it on a greased sheet.
Step3 – Cook it on a hot tawa/tava the way you make paratha.Apply ghee till brown spots develops on both sides.
Step4 – Make balls and flatten it on a greased sheet. Cook it on a hot tawa /tava with little oil/ghee as required till brown develops on both the sides.
I have just used 1 tsp of oil and still it tastes great
Serve hot with raita, coriander chutney and bottle gourd/lauki sabji (if calorie conscious).. If you are not bothered about the fat content then serve it with sabudaana kheer and fried potatoes
P.S If you want to make puris then just fry them up instead of making them as paratha.
