My Experience with The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick in Poppy Universal-50

Packaging- The Body Shop has jumped onto the chubby stick wagon. The pencil is small and thick. It has a twist-up mechanism. The stain-stick is also quite chubby. The cap shuts well but still I will suggest being careful when the velvet stick is in your purse. I like the glossy black packaging.

Shade and Texture- The bullet is a muddy grey in color and looks weird to say the least. On my hands it comes out as a deep berry shade. It is not very pigmented though.

The texture is smooth and velvety on application. It’s a bit waxy but nothing bothersome. It has a spicy kind of fragrance which is not overpowering.

My Take- These velvet sticks are available in 6 beautiful shades. I found two of them suitable for me but got this one as its claims to be universal appealed to me. TBS says that the color shows up as per the body pH. I don’t know about that but I think that as this is so lightly pigmented, it will look different on different skin tones regardless of the pH. Also girls, the usual pH of skin is 5.5 which I don’t think varies too much.

When I apply it on my lips, it comes out as a berry shade. It looks like the stain that MAC viva glam 3 lipstick leaves on my lips but this TBS stain is less pigmented than even that stain. It cannot hide my two toned lips but still gives a beautiful flush of color. I like the natural look. It stays on for about 5 hours if you just drink during the period. It also transfers a bit and so becomes lighter gradually. The stain vanishes if you take a full meal.

It does not make my lips feel dry at any point but I don’t think that it hydrates either. I find a lot of contradictory properties in it somehow.

On my cheeks, it is a berry shade but again not too deep. It gives a very natural looking flush to cheeks. On cheeks too it lasts for just about 5 hours but yes my skin is oily. It does not make my skin greasy though. It can be blended easily with fingers and obviously with brush too.

I like to use it for a simple natural look on both lips and cheeks. You can use it on cheeks for any time of the day but it is not the best thing for evening events especially if you have two-toned lips like me.

and i say so because unlike regular maybelline balms, this one is not very balmy, but has a decent berry pay-off for a lip balm!
very comparable, if seen from my point of view! :/
