Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box Review

Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box review

When my husband (then fiancé) moved to France, I was just so excited that I would finally get access to all the international brands that I could only dream about in India! So I made him a long list of stuff I wanted and the poor guy went into Sephora and bought every single item! And the one thing I immediately fell in love with was the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow Box. It cost $38 and it comes with 9 beautiful eyeshadows, plus a mini primer potion (that I lost!).

Here’s what the Urban Decay  palette looks like:

Isn’t it pretty? Here’s a closer look at the palette and swatches of the eyeshadows:

Here’s my description and opinion of each individual shade:

Top to bottom - underground, scratch, shag, peace, zero, graffiti, ransom, honey, fishnet

(RtoL) –   Underground, scratch, shag, peace, zero, graffiti, ransom, honey, fishnet

1. Fishnet – It’s a pink and purple duochrome. It’s a little light for my skintone, so I have to really pack it on for the duochrome to shine through.

2. Honey – It’s a beautiful gold colour, rich and pigmented. It’s perfect for Indian themed looks.

3. Ransom – It’s a bluish purple. I don’t use it a lot as an eyeshadow, but I do love it as an eyeliner.

4. Graffiti – It’s a bright grassy green shade. I have barely used it though, since it looks very weird on me both as a shadow and as a liner.

5. Zero – It’s a black shimmery shadow that is my least favourite in the whole palette since it isn’t very pigmented.

6. Peace – It’s a bright turquoise that is super pigmented. I don’t use this very often either, but it goes very well with some of my Indian saris and suits!

7. Shag – It’s a coppery colour that is too light for  me to use as a lid colour. I use it mostly as an inner corner highlight or for blending other brown based eyeshadows.

8. Scratch – It’s a shimmery light pink that makes the perfect highlight shade for pink and purple based eye makeup looks!

9. Underground – It’s a light bronzey brown shade. If I pack it on with a wet brush, I can use it as a lid colour, but that takes a lot of effort! I often use it for blending.

Overall, this palette is a great way to introduce a great selection Urban Decay colours into your makeup collection at a decent price. It’s also a great way to try out the Urban Decay primer potion, which is a pretty great product.

Any cons? Availability used to be a problem, but I think with Sephora opening in India, this palette should be available there too. I like the colour and structure of the packaging but it is made of some velvety material that attracts a lot of lint and dust and is impossible to keep clean! Oh and I do think it is slightly better suited to lighter skintones than mine though, since some of the shades don’t show up very well on me!

Do you own the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow box? What do you think of these eyeshadows? Do let me know in the comments! 🙂
