Vermicelli Upma /Namkeen jave/Namkeen seviaiye/semia recipe with pictures

Vermicilli upma is a breakfast recipe which is quite popular in India.Every one has their own version of it.South Indian make it with peanuts .People from Mumbai make it with peas and some add lots of vegetables in it.
Below here are three version in which method is same only thing is ingredients has been changed here and there according to preference.
Ingredients -(For 2-3)
2 cups Vermicelli
2 Green Chillies finely Chopped
1/2 Cup Cooked Vegetables (carrots-beans-green peas)
2 potatoes sliced
½ teaspoon Mustard seed
Curry Leaves
Red chilli powder
1/4tsp Turmeric
Salt to taste

Step1 Take a pan and add oil in it.Add mustard seeds and wait till they start crackling
Step2:Add chopped tomatoes ,salt and red chilli.
Step3:Cook the tomatoes till it leaves little oil and then add sliced potatoes.
Step3Add chopped green chillies .Cover the lid of the pan and weight for around 10 minutes for potatoes to get cooked.You need more water for this add vermicille absorb lot of water.
Step4:Once potatoes are done add vermicille and stir them till they are cooked.

 Serve hot.You can add chopped carrot ,cauliflower and peas also according to your preference.
Now this is a little different and the second version of this recipe
2 cups Vermicelli
½ Cup Chopped Onions
1 tsp Chopped Ginger
2 Green Chillies finely Chopped
½ teaspoon Mustard seeds
Pinch of teaspoon Asafoetida
1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
Curry Leaves
1 tsp Ghee
Salt to taste


Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds till it starts crackling.Once done add Onions, ginger and Green Chillies and saute till the Onions are tender on medium heat. Add asafoetida and Vermicelli and saute for a few more minutes. Add one cup of water and cook the vermicelli after closing the lid so that the water is absorbed completely. Remove from heat and add ghee and lemon juice and mix carefully without mashing the vermicelli. Serve Hot.

Now this is the third and last version version 

Take oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves.Wait till they crackle.Add 1/4th cup peanuts and roast them in this oil.Add salt ,red chilli and chopped green chillies in it. Now add 2 cups of water and 1 cup of vermicelli and let it cook for 5-10 minutes. Serve hot.
