Watermelon as herbal remedy and its health benefits

Watermelon fruit, loosely considered a type of melon (although not in the genus Cucumis ), has a smooth exterior rind (green, yellow, and sometimes white) and a juicy, sweet interior flesh (usually pink, but sometimes orange, yellow, red, and sometimes green if not ripe).

It is a water based fruit thus it naturally prevents thirst and dehydration. It is filled with loads of vitamin such as vitamin A (10%), Vitamin C (25%), vitamin B1 and B6 10% each and magnesium and potassium 7% and 5% respectively.

Different name of watermelon
The Hindi tarabūja (also tarabūza), Sanskrit tarambuja is borrowed from Persian تربوز tarbuz .

Watermelon is mostly used as a fruit and its peel are used to make sabji/bhajji in India. Very few people are aware its herbal use. Below here is a comprehensive list of home remedies for various ailments.

1. Boost memory-Take out the seeds of watermelon and peel off its black coating. They are little bigger in size then that of melon seeds. Chew 5-10 of the empty stomach in the morning .This is really beneficial for students too.

2. Constipation-If you eat watermelon after having lunch and dinner you will get rid of constipation.

3. Headache-If you are suffering from old headache problem then drink watermelon juice empty stomach in the morning. Add 1tsp of sugar also in it. To make watermelon juices take out all the seeds of watermelon and grind it up in a mixer. Filter it with a sieve.

If you don’t have a mixer grinder or juicer then mash the watermelon and put it in a thin cotton cloth. Squeeze the cloth in a big bowl. Your juice will be ready to be served. Apply the left over mashed pulp on your face for instant glow.

4. Fever-Drinking watermelon juice or eating watermelon fruit helps in getting rid of fever.

5. Dry cough (sukhi khasi)-Take watermelon cubes and sprinkle black salt on it. Eat it once in a day to get rid of dry cough.

6. High blood pressure-Drinking juice of watermelon fresh seeds helps in reducing high blood pressure.

To make juice of watermelon seeds peel of the seeds of watermelon and dry them under the sun for 1 day. Now take 2tsp of seeds and put them in 1 cup of boiled water for an hour. Now filter the mixture with the help of a thin cloth .You can drink this mixture any time of the day and for best result drink empty stomach.

7. Cleansing of kidney-Drinking watermelon juice or eating its fruit promotes urination which helps in natural cleansing of kidney.

8. Insomnia, weak memory and other minor diseases related to brain-Take 1 cup cow’s milk ,1 cup watermelon juice , 2 tsp. crystal sugar and store it in a transparent glass bottle. Put this bottle under moon light for whole night and drink the mixture early in the morning empty stomach. Take this drink every day till you start noticing result yourself.

9. Impotence in men-watermelon juice is believed to be as a support medicine while getting treatment for impotence.
