What is Strobing

What is Strobing

Hey girls,

Today I’ll be talking about the latest makeup technique, Strobing.

The process of Strobing means highlighting and sculpting with lights. This is a great alternative to contouring, so if you are not a fan of stark contouring and don’t want a sculpted Kim Kardashian look, yet want to highlight your face, then this can be your thing.

Using light to sculpt and highlight your face and that is what strobing is all about. It includes using illuminators and highlighters to get that glow and when light hits, it would draw attention to those areas.

There are so many products available in the market with which you can happily strobe. There are baked highlighters, liquid illuminizers, highlighting cream sticks or you can use pigments as well. But whatever you choose, make sure it is not too glittery. You just want a simple nice sheen and a dewy glow.

Now let us see how one can sculpt and highlight her face using the much raved strobing technique.

  • Start with CTM routine. Dry, flaky and dirty skin isn’t idle for a strobed look.

  • Now take your favourite foundation and mix it with a liquid illuminator. Make sure the illuminator you are using doesn’t have chunky shimmers. My favourite foundation would be MAC face and body or MAC Studio fix and my favourite illuminator will be MAC strobe cream or Inglot AMC face and body illuminator or Benefit Highbeam.

  • Now apply the fixture all over your face. With gentle circular motions blend it into your skin well. The mix of foundation and illuminator will de-snooze, de-stress, moisten, freshen and boost the look of dull, flat or tired-looking skin.
  • Conceal wherever necessary.
  • Do your eyes and your eyebrows.
  • Apply translucent powder to get rid of oily zones and set the foundation.
  • Now time for sculpting with strobing 😉
Take your favourite illuminator and apply it on the high points of your face, the places where light hits first. I would prefer a powder illuminator over a liquid one. The Balm Mary Lou Manizer is my favourite. I love this product. It’s essentially the perfect highlighter. It’s not glittery and gives more like an angelic glow to your cheeks.

  • Swirl your medium sized brush on the illuminator and dab lightly on your upper cheeks, top of your brows, center of your forehead. Now switch to a smaller brush and start dabbing on the inner corner of your eyes, brow bones, nose-bridge, Cupid’s bow and chin.
  • You will be able to see that the illuminating particle will draw light and highlight the areas.
  • Finish off your look with a swirl of your favourite blush and lipstick.

So that is it. Pretty simple.

Have you strobed before?
